FILE CASE OR CABINET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,815, dated October 2, 1894.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, PETER J. PAULY, J r., of

the city of St: Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File Cases or Cabinets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip- F1011, reference being had to the accompanylug drawings, forming a part hereof. My invention has relation to improvements in file cases or cabinets and consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of the cabinet in its open position. Fig. 2 is a detailvertical sectional view showing the meeting ends of the cabinet and the hinged bottom. Fig. 3 is a front View of the lower portion, the parts being in like position 5 and Figetis a detail showing the front of the cabinet with its operating handle bar.

The object of my invention is to construct a telescopic file case or cabinet which can be easily operated, one which shall be compact and adapted for places where economy of space is a prime object. To this end I have devised a cabinet which in detail may be described as follows:

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents an outer casing of iron or other suitable fireproof material within which the sliding cabi net 2 is adapted to be received. The latter is provided on one side with suitable file cases, roller shelves, money drawers, &c., to meet the demands of the particular office where the same is used. The case is adapted to rest on the floor and hinged to one end of the bottom of the casing is a plate or door 3 opening outwardly; and when in its open po sition the said door forms a continuation of the bottom of the casing. The door has disposed along its inner surface a series of track rails 4 which form a continuous track with the rails 5 resting on the bottom of the easing 1. The outer or upper end of the door 3 has two or more projecting lugs 6, and the bottom plate 7 of the cabinet has a depending edge 8. As seen from the drawings the lugs 6 limit the outward movement of the cabinet by striking the edge 8 of the floor plate thereof.

The cabinet is mounted on grooved wheels 9 which span the rails 4 and 5. The front of the cabinet is provided with a suitable operating handle bar 10, and when the cabinet has been rolled into the casing the door is closed after it, the lugs 6 entering or closing under the inner surface of the upper wall or top of the casing 1. The sweep or circle described by the closing bottom is indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1.

The sliding or movable portion of the case can be used in connection with existing cabinets where the room in their lower portion is not at present utilized for other purposes. It is obvious too that the construction here described need not be adhered to in detail, any and all equivalents falling clearly within the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A telescopic cabinet comprising a fixed casing, a movable cabinet adapted to slide within the same, a suitable door secured to the bottom of the casing and adapted to fold over the movable cabinet, and to support the movable cabinet when the door is in an open position, and track rails on the inner face of. the door for guiding the movable cabinet when the door is in its open position, substan tially as set forth.

2. A telescopic. cabinet comprising a fixed casing, a movable cabinet adapted to slide within the same, a suitable door hinged to the bottom of the fixed portion, suitable track rails on the bottom of the fixed casing, and suitable rails on the inner surface of the door forming a continuation of the rails in the easing when the door is in an open position,substantially as set forth.

3. A telescopic cabinet comprising a fixed casing or portion, a movable cabinet within the same, a suitable door hinged to the fixed portion, track rails on the inner surface of the door, track rails in said cabinet, and suitable means on said door and movable portion for limiting the outward movement of the latter, substantially as set forth.

4. A telescopic cabinet comprising a fixed casing or portion, a movable cabinet adapted to slide within the same, suitable wheels at the bottom of said movable portion, ahinged door secured to the fixed casing, track rails on the inner surface of said door, rails on the bottom of the casing, suitable upturned lugs along the outer or upper edge of said door, a suitable downward projecting edge at the forward end of the bottom of the movable cabito net, and a suitable handle for operating the cabinet, substantially as set forth.
