Description

NTTnD STATES Trice.
PATENT IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,5 R6, dated February 13, 1866.
To all whom tt may concern:
Beit known that I, SUMNER A. BnMrs, of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Shirt or Dress Collar; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specilication.
Figure l is a view of the collar spread out at full length and Width; Fig. 2, a front view of the same as it appears when folded down and clasped around the neck.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in both figures.
The form of my improved collar is seen in Fig. 1, and the improvement lies in the ends afg of the band Ain relation to the'ends b b ot' the collar-fold B when clasped around the neck and buttoned through the button-holes c c, as seen in Fig. 2.
The ends of the band terminate in points t a, and the projecting edges ff g g are convexly curved, particularly and essentially the lower edges, g g, so that they will exactly conform to each other when lapped the one over the other on the neck, as indicated in Fig. 2.
The points t t and the upper edges, ff, are
overlapped by the ends b b of the collar fold, and consequently are both hidden Whichever end is folded outside of the other.
The lapped ends of the band should be of sufficient length to reach under the ends b b of the collar fold. With this form and construction the collar has a beautifully smooth and neat appearance, no edges being in sight except the proper outlines of the collar.
The collar may be made ot' linen, paper, or any other desirable material.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The collar-band extended so that its ends will reach behind the collar fold When the collar is buttoned around the neck, their lower edges shaped so as to conform together, substantially as and for the purposeherein specied.
The above specification of my improvement in collars signed by me this 28th day ofAugust,
SUMNER A. BEMIS. Witnesses MILTON BRADLEY, N.V. HINMAN.
