Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NOAH C. PERRY AND GEORGE S. GLADDING, OF CHESTER, ASSIGNORS TO JEREMY W. BLISS, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVED DOOR-GUARD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,497, dated February 6, 1866.
and use the same, we will proceed to describe the construction thereof, referrin g to the drawing, in which the same Iletters indicate like parts in each of the gures.
The nature of this improvement in doorguards will be fully understood from the following.
A is a block, of wood or other material, turned or worked into any desirable form or shape to suit the convenience or fancy. G is a dowel, by which it is secured by insertingit into a hole made in the base board or other place desirable just back of the door.
D is a spiral spring, having one end crooked and pointed in such a manner as to form a pin, F, which is driven into the center, and at the bottom of the chamber formed in the block A, for the purpose of holding said spring in place, the outer end being slightly turned in toward the center from the diameter of the spring. i
B is a guard turned or worked so as to tit the chamber of the block A, and having a dowel, C, of the diameter of' the inside of the spring D, and a groove, E, close up to the guard B, so that as the dowel C is placed into the spring it will catch into said groove and hold it in place.
H is a cork or other material either let into the end ofthe guard B or secured to the outer surface thereof, to prevent mar-rin g the door.
The advantage derived by this improvement over others now in use will readily be seen, for'while it protects the trimmings upon the door, it also protects the door itself from injury, and its but-ts from being broken, and can be made and sold much less than those which possess the elastic feature now.v in use.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A new and useful article of Inani'ifacture or doorguard, substantially in the manner as and for the purpose described.
