Description

I UNITED; STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. OOX,OF GREENE, ALABAMA.
QULTIVATOR,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 524,935, dated. August 21,1894. I
Application filed March 1 2, 1 8 94;
of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Cultivators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying draw- I ings, which form part of this specification My invention relates to an improvement in cultivator-s: and it consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and especially referred to in the claims. 7
The object of my invention'is to provide improved lateral and inclination adjustment for the cultivator plows.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the under side of the cultivator. Fig. 2 is a detached view of one of the plows. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the adjusting rack.
A is the central'beam of the cultivator and B the side beams connected as shown at their forward ends to the said central beam so as to have an outwardly swinging movement. Each side beam B is provided on its under side with a pivoted plate 0 having a stud D to which is pivotally secured the plow stock E. Pivotally secured to this stock is the arm F which leads upward and backward to the rear of stud D and secured to; its upper end is the plate'G provided with a series of adjusting holes G, whereby the same is clamped by bolt H to the slotted adjusting rack I which extends inward toward the central beam. The slot in this rack is segmental so that the bolt H may be readily moved therein to acquire the proper lateral adjustment of the plow, while the openings G in plate G enable me to vary the inclination of the plows as will be readily understood.
Serial No.503,325. (No model.)
A which serves to hold the side beam in proper adjustment. When the nut of the eye bolt is drawn up the arm is firmly clamped.
The plow of the central beam has no lateral adjustment, hence its stock is pivoted directly to the beam as shown at K, while its plate G is also secured thereto instead of to an adjusting rack as described of the side plows. 7
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a cultivatorbeam, a plow stock adapted to swing beneath the same, an arm extending from the stock, a plate pivoted to the outer end of the arm and provided with a series of adjusting points, and a clamping bolt, substantially as shown and described. I
2. The combination of a cultivator beam, a plate pivoted to its under side, a plow stock pivotally connected to and adapted to swing beneath the plate, a rack. over which the plate extends, arm F, plate G, and bolt H extending through plate G, the first named plate and the rack, substantially as shown and described.
3. A cultivator provided with a central beam, laterally movable side beams, racks on the inner sides of the side beams, adjustable plows on the side beams which are held as desired by the racks, arms loosely secured to the said racks, and clamping eyes on the central beam throughwhich the said arms extend,substantially as shown and described. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
