Description

' A-. LAMB.
Cultivator.
No. 52,421. 5 Patel med Feb. 6 1866.
' .4104 Q I V y/yim UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEe ALFORD LAMB, OF SKANEATELES, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEM ENT IN CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 52,421, dated February 6, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFORD LAMB, of Skaneateles, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cultivators; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, made part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a View of the cultivator. Fig. 2 represents the shares or hillers which are substituted for the cultivator-teeth.
This cultivator is arranged with a triangular frame composed of the iron rods D and E and cross-timber 0. These braces, converging from the extremities of O, are united to the front standard, H, and the beam D. The
handles, rising from the beam in the ordinary manner, support the upper ends of the standards A, B, and H. The front standard, H, to which is attached the beam, carries the plow. The two rear standards, A and B, carry scrapers, by which the earth is thrown toward the center, as shown in the drawings, or by changing the standards one for the other they will throw the earth outward toward the rows. Instead of these shovels, hillers such as are shown in Fig. 2, of the usual construction, may be employed, the parts being all constructed so as to be detachable.
The shafts are attached to the beam by the swivel F, and by means of the gage Gr may be so adjusted as to regulate the depth of the cut. This gage is a straight bar of iron perforated with holes, to which the brace of the shafts is attached by a pin. Through the bottom hole in this gage the shank of a hook passes, attached to the beam D and receiving the single-tree.
Having fully explained the nature of my improvements, What I claim as my invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, 1's
1. The arrangement for attaching the shafts to the beam by means of the swivel F, and gage G for regulating the depthjof the cut, as set forth.
2. The arrangement of the frame E D O and standards A B H with the beam K and handles, all constructed and combined substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
ALFORD LAMB.
