M. PORST. NEWSPAPER STAND.
No. 523,934. Patented July 31, 1894.
NGI
. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORITZ FORST, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NEWSPAPERF-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 523,934, dated July 31, 1894. Application filed May 10, 1894. Serial No. 510,697- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORITZ FORST, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Newspaper-Stand, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a stand fordisplaying and holding newspapers, so that the same can be readily inspected and removed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved stand, on line 1, 1, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line 2, 2, Fig. 1.
The letter a, represents a standard provided with an ofiset a, upon which rests an annular revoluble plate b. This plate is provided with a series of radially extending convex spring arms 0, which are bifurcated at their forward ends, to carry a friction roller 0'. At their rear ends the arms 0 terminate in laterally extending coiled springs'c which are strung upon a common circular wire d, extending around the central opening of plate 6. The wire (1 is secured to the plate I), by suitable screw eyes d, or similar fasteners, engaging the wire between the springs.
The upper end of the standard a, is provided with a socket 0., adapted for the reception of an umbrella A, which is held in place by a clamp screw a The newspapers, B areslipped under the rollers c, of the spring arms 0, and will be thus securely held in place, while they may be readily withdrawn by a slight pull.
7 What I claim is- 1. The combination of a standard with an annular revoluble plate a series of radial convex spring arms pivoted thereto and with rollers journaled in the free ends of such arms, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of a standard with an annular revoluble plate, a circular wire secured to such plate, a series of radial convex spring arms engaging the wire, and friction rollers j ournaled in the free ends of the arms, substantially as specified.
