Description

UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE ADOLPHE CANNOT, OF LONDON, ENGLAND. v
MATERIAL FOR MAKING ELECTRIC-LIGHT FILAMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 523,264, dated July 17, 1894.
Application filed December 12, 1898. Serial No, 493,505. (No specimens) Patented in England September 1, 189 1 No. 14,854; in France September 15, 1891, No. 216,144; in Belgium September 15 1891, No. 96,398, and in Austria-Hungary April 21.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GUsTAvE ADOLPHE CAN- NOT, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of London, in the county of Middlesex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Material for Making Filaments for Electric Lights, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent of Great Britain, dated September 1, 1891, No. 14,854; of France, dated September 15, 1891, No. 216,144; of Belgium, dated September 15, 1891, No. 96,398, and of Austria-Hungary, dated April 21, 1892, No. 60,599 5) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in filaments for incandescent electric lights and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the manufacture of filaments according to this invention, peat fiber preferably thoroughly cleansed of impurities, is spun into a thin yarn which is carbonized in the ordinary way and'is then put in the lamps and further treated and finished in the well known manner in which carbon filaments are treated.
I claim as new- A filament for incandescent electric lamps, consisting of a thin yarn of peat fiber carbonized and treated in the ordinary way, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAVE ADOLPHE CANNOT.
Witnesses:
ARTHUR E. EDWARDS, CLEMENT THOMAS PLANT.
