Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of part of the improvement.

The improved buck saw frame is provided with a frame proper made of a single flat piece of steel bent in proper shape to form the handle bar A, the middle portion A and the end bar A as plainly illustrated in Fig.1. On the outer end of the bar A is held a transversely-extending rivet B engaging the forward end of the saw blade 0 connected at its inner'end by a rivet D with the double eye E of the bolt E, having part E of its shank E made square in cross section to pass through a correspondingly shaped aperture in the twisted part A of the handle barA to prevent the said bolt E from turning. This twisted part A extends with the flat portion of the piece of steel transversely as plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. To the outer face of the twisted part A is riveted or otherwise secured a keeper A through which extends the threaded end of the shank E of the bolt E; the said threaded end being engaged by a wing nut E which screws against the outer face of the keeper A so as to draw the eye bolt E outward to firmly stretch the saw blade between the bars A and A The double eye E is open at its side adjacent to the handle, so as to allow of the ready insertion of the rivet D. p v 7 On the outer end of the handle bar Ais secured by rivets or other suitable means, the handle F, and near the inner end of the said bar is held adj ustably a second handle G, provided with a socket G fitted to slide on the said bar A and adapted to be secured thereon bya set screw H. Thus, by loosening the set screw H, the handle G can be slid up or down on the bar A, so as to bring this handle in proper relation to the fixed handle F to suit the convenience of the user.

It will be seen that a frame made of a single piece of steel, say one-fourth of an inch thick, by three-fourths of an inch wide, can be made comparatively strong, at the same time insuring the desired lightness.

The distance between the saw blade 0 and the middle portion A of the frame is such as to permit of cutting logs of considerable thickness, without adding much additional weight to the entire saw.

Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A buck saw frame, comprising a frame proper whose handle bar is provided with a THOMAS C. KNOWLES. WILLIAM J. ADAMS.
