UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J OSE RIERA HERNANDEZ, OF HAVANA, CUBA.
CIGARETTE-WRAPPER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Fatent No. 521,026, dated June 5, 1894.
Original application filed September 15, 1893, Serial No. 485,642. Divided and this applioationfiled December 5. 1893. $erial lio- 492,871- (No model.)
To all whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J osit RIERA HERNAN- DEZ,a subject of the King of Spain, andaresident of Havana, in the Island of Cuba, have invented certain new and useful Improve-- ments in Cigarette-Wrapper Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My present application is a division from that filed by me in the Patent Office on or about September 15, 1893, Serial No. 485,542 and on which a patent was issued March 13,
' 1894, No. 516,392, and relates to a wrapper holder which is adapted to hold and smooth cigarette wrappers before the same are rolled around the filler.
My invention consists of certain features of construction, and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like numerals indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the improvement'on line 1-1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation thereof.
The improved wrapper holder is usually arranged on a table 1, supported on legs or standards '2, and having a rear wall 3 and side walls 4. The holder consists primarily of a bottom board or foundation plate 5 forming a table at. the rear of which are secured uprights 6 supporting an axle 27 that extends longitudinally of the foundation plat'e.- On the said axle are loosely mounted levers 28, the rear ends whereof are connected by means of cords 29, passing over guide pulleys 24, with pedals 30 pivoted at the front end of the machine. The front ends of the levers have a pivotal connection of any suitable kind with plungers 31 to which are secured rings or loops 32 adapted to move along guides 33,the said rings being preferably pivotally connected with the plungers to allow the latter to assume a slight inclination. A spring 34, serves to return the plunger toward thetable after it has been raised by depressing the corresponding pedal 30. The width of the plungers 31 is equal to the length it is intended to give the cigarette wrappers.
The operation of the machine is as follows: The cigarette wrappers'7 which are not yet of the exact length desired, are stretched out and spread smooth on the table and brought one after the other under one of the plungers 31, it being understood that the corresponding pedal 30 is depressed in order to raise the plunger. As soon as the pedal is released, the plunger is brought down on the wrapper by the spring 34 and will hold it firmly and smoothly on the table until the plunger is raised another time to place the following wrapper on the top. of the first. This operation is continued till a great numbersay three hundred to fourhundred wrappers are piled beneath the plunger-s 31. It will be obvious that the wrappers will be held perfectly smooth and after being cut down to the exact length will be ready to be wound or rolled on a tobacco filler. The material for the wrappers may be paper or tobacco leaves.
It will be obvious that the foundation plate 5 maybe omitted, and the uprights 6 and guides 33 secured directly to the table 1.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cigarette wrapper holder, comprising a table on which the wrappers are adapted to be laid, uprights rigidly connected with the table, a lever pivotally connected with the uprights, a pedal operatively connected with the rear arm of the lever, a plunger having a pivotal connection with the front arm of the lever, a ring pivotally connected with the plunger and extending approximately perpendicular thereto, a guide secured to the table and arranged parallel to the plunger to be engaged by the said ring, and aspring for pressing the front arm of the lever toward the table, substantially as described.
