To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS B. PRAHAR, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improved Corner or Frame for Pocket-Books, Book-Covers, and Like Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Myinvention relates to an improvement in corners or frames for pocket books, book covers and like articles, and it has for its object to construct the frame or corner in two sections, a body section and a binding section, whereby two differently colored metals may be employed in the construction of a frame at a minimum of cost, and to provide a means whereby when the frame is in position upon the article to which it is to be applied it will have all the appearance of a one-piece frame.

The in vention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a face View of a portion of a cover having the improved corner frame applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a section taken vertically through a frame and a portion of a cover. Fig. 3 is a section similar to that shown in Fig. 2, illustrating a slight modification in the construction of the frame. Fig.4 is a partial plan view of a modified form of the body of the frame; and Fig. 5 is a section through a portion of the cover and a frame constructed as shown in Fig. 4 applied to the cover.

Heretofore the corner frames for the decoration of pocket books, books and like articles, have been made in one piece, and when it was desired that the frame should represent two metals, for example silver and gold, the process of plating to accomplish such a result was not only difficult, requiring considerable time and labor, but it was likewise expensive.

The prime object of this invention is, as stated, to provide a means whereby any such frame may be made in two colors or metal, or or two different metals, in an exceedingly simple and economic manner, the frame being capable of application in like manner as the ordinary frame. To that end the frame is made in two sections, a body section A and a clamping section B. The body A may be of any desired contour and of any approved design. Ordinarily however, as the shape or character of the frame demands, its form approximates that of a triangle, and at the outer margin of the body an upturned flange or rib 10 may be formed, as shown in Fig. 2, or a depression or channel 11 may be produced, as shown in Fig. 3,or as illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 knob-like projections 12 may be formed at proper intervals apart along the margin, which may be accomplished by striking up the metal from beneath.

The clamping section B, is adapted to embrace the outer marginal section of the body, and likewise to embrace the cover 0, or whatever the article to which the frame is to be applied; therefore, the clamping section is practically somewhat triangular in cross sec- 'tion, representing as it were two arms of a triangle, and in cross section the clamping section of the frame consists of a body member 13, which is substantially straight, and is practically shown in the drawings in vertical position, a horizontal member 14 at right angles to the body member, and an upper loop member 15, which is curved from the body member downwardly in direction of the horizontal member 14. The hook member may be termed the upper member, the horizontal member 14 the lower one and the body member 13 the outer one, since in applying the frame to the book, or a like article, the body is placed upon the outer face of the book at the corner, the, clamping member is then brought to the margin of the book at the corner in such manner that its hook member will receive between it and the body member the flange 10, as shown in Fig. 2, or the projections 12, as shown in Fig. 5, whereby the hook member will enter the depression 11, as

another and will firmly clamp the body to the cover, and at the same time the clamping section will adhere firmly to the cover itself.

It is evident from the foregoing description, that one section of the frame may be made of one metal and the other section of another, or both sections may be made of the same metal plated with different metals, or difierently colored, thus producing a corner frame as durable as the old frame, yet capable of producing effects impossible to be obtained in the old form of making the frame without considerable expense and difficulty in labor.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A corner or frame for pocket books and the like, composed of a flat body or plate, and a clamping section adapted to be applied to the edge of the book so as to overlap or em- .20

brace it, the said body and section having engaging or locking portions, substantially as shown and described.

2. A corner or frame for pocketbook covers and the like, consisting of a body or plate adapted to lie flat on a cover and having an upwardly-projecting portion, and the clamping section, having a downwardly-bent flange which covers and engages the projection of the body, its opposite side edge being bent under and thereby adapted to embrace and clamp the edge of the cover, as shown and described.
