Be itknown that I, FRANCIS M. WILKINSON, of Birmingham, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Shade Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.

plicable to any length of roller or width of shade, since as a house is occupied successively by difierent tenants the window frames are mutilated by the nails or screws used in putting up the ordinary brackets, and as the shade rollers of difierent tenants are rarely of the same length, the nail holes previously made present a very unsightly appearance. My invention is designed to providea per- I manent roller support which is put up once for all, and remains on the window frame, and is adjustable to receive any length of shade roller which may be used on such win dow.

It consists in a right angular bracket flat in cross section and having its longer shank portion arranged parallel to the roller and in horizontal position and provided with teeth or notches on one of its edges, and its shorter section bent outwardly at right angles to the shank portion and provided with a bearing for the roller journals, in combination with a single staple or keeper arranged to straddle the shank portion obliquely and be driven into the window frame to sustain the said shank portion in a horizontal position, as will be hereinafter more fully described with reference to the drawings, in which-e Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window frame and shade provided with my improved shade roller support. Fig.2 is an enlarged front view of one of the supports; Fig. 3 a top or plan view of the same, and Fig. 4a detail view of a modified form of the keeper.

In the drawings A represents the window frame, B is a shade, and C the shade roller which at its ends is provided with the usual journals or trunnions a a. The shade roller support at each end is exactly alike, except that to facilitate the insertion of the roller journals one bracket has a hole and the other a slot as usual. These brackets are made of flat metal bent at right angles so that the part D in which the journals rest, stands at right angles to the window frame, while the shank portion D lies fiat against the window frame in a horizontal position and parallel with the roller. The lower edge of this shank portion is cut into a series of notches or teeth I) which constitutes at the same time a means for adjusting and locking the bracket in position. These brackets are held in elongated staples or keepers E which are driven into the window frame until the middle part of the staple is just close enough to the window frame to allow the shank of the bracket to play freely through the same. These staples are made wider than the transverse dimensions of the shank of the bracket, so that the staple may straddle the said shank of the bracket in an oblique position, and when in this position the bottom leg of the staple held the bracket is firmly locked against longitudinal movement by the engagement of its teeth with the lower leg of the staple, and yet if it is desired to adjust the brackets to a longer or shorter shade roller, this may be quickly and easily accomplished by simply turning the shank of the bracket at right angles to the staple as shown in dotted lines and slipping it farther in or out as the case may be, the teeth having plenty of room to pass through when in this position, owing to the fact that the staple is wider than the transverse dimensions of the bracket shank.

As a modification of the staple, or in place of the same, a keeper consisting of a fiat bar with two screws ornails maybe used, as shown in Fig. 4.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
