SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,593, dated May 8, 1894. Application filed June 17,1893. Serial No. 4771977. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN A. W. SEABERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Malden, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Baby Jumpers and Weighers, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved baby jumper and weigher, and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accom-A panying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the invention; and Fig. 2 represents a detail elevation of the upper portion thereof shown partly in section.`

Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.

In the Ydrawings A represents a suitable I hook or other device from which the baby jumper is to be suspended when used; such hook may if so desired be attached to the end of a rope or link connected to the ceiling or the horizontal upper part of a door frame or other convenient obj ect as may be desired.

B is a metal bail to the upper end of which is firmly `secured a cross bar b provided preferably with a swivel eye B adapted to be suspended from the hook A as shown. On the bail B is vertically movable the cross bar or stop piece C to which is firmly secured the upper end of the yielding rod D which passes looselyr through a perforation in the lower end of the bail B and has attached to its lower end in a suitable manner a chair, crib or other device E as shown; to the lowerend of the bail B is secured the upper end of a coiled spring F having its lower end attached in a suitable manner to the rod D at a point below the lower end of the said bail B as shown. If for any reason the springFshould break the cross bar C will come to a stop against the lower end of the bail B thus pre-` venting the supporting rod D from being ent tirely detached from the said bail and thereby preventing the child sitting in the chairE from dropping onto the lioor or ground and receiving injury by such fall in case of the 5c breakage or detachment of said spring F.

' It is desirable in baby jumpers, swings and vthe like to have a ready means for weighing the child from time to time and for this purpose I secure preferably in an adjustable manner, to the bail B an index pointer G adapted to indicate such weight upon a graduated scale H secured to the suspension rod D. In practice I prefer to make such scale in the form of a tube surrounding said 6o rod D and secured to it in an adjustable manner preferably by means of a set screw h or equivalent device. By making either the graduated scale H or the index pointer G movable, such parts may be adjusted so as to indicate accurately the weightin pounds, &c.,

What- I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim iso A baby-jumper, consisting of a bailB having a cross-bar b at its upper end, a cross-bar C movable along the length of the bail, a rod D rigidly secured at its upper end to said movable cross-bar and extending downward through the lower end portion of the bail, a chair or crib E suspended from the lower eX- tremity of the rod, and a spring F having its upper end secured to the lower end of the bail and its lower end secured to the lower 8o end portion of said rod in juxtaposition to its point of attachment to the chair or crib, substantially as shown and described.
