Q. SOHT'IPPLE & o. HUBELBR. CIGAR PRESS.
I Patented May 1, 1894.
WITNESSES? 6?. (.9.
'UNI-TED ST TES PATENT OFFICE.
cHARLES SoHI'IPPLE AND oI-IARLES HI'I ELER, on PHILADELPHIA,
' PENNSYLVANIA. I s s CIGAR-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Iatent No. 519,163, dated May 1, 1894. Application filed March 28, 1893. Serial No. 467,959r (No model.)
To all whom itmay concern.-
Be it known that we, CHARLES SoHiiPPLE, a citizen of the United States, and CHARLES Hi'IBELER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, having resided one year last past in the United States and declared my intention of becoming a citizen thereof, both residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Presses, which improvement is fully setforth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Our invention consists of a cigar-mold vpress I formed of a frame, bed or stand, supporting the lower section of a mold, andtoggle levers pivoted to said bed, and connected bya cross bar which carries the upper mold section, whereby the molds may be tightly closed,
and the cigar bundles therein firmly pressed. Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cigar press embodying our invention. Fig.
2 represents a sectional view on a line through the center of the press, showing the parts in operative position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a frame, bed or stand, which is provided with a flange B, and on which rests the lower section C of a cigar mold. I
Pivotally mounted on the sides of the bed A, are the levers -D, which are at one end connected by the handle E, and at their ends are pivoted to levers F, forming a toggle, the said levers F being joined by a cross bar A.
G designates the upper section of the mold,
which has secured to it the ear H, in which is journaledthe cross bar A of the levers F.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The levers F are lowered and the upper section is thrown back. The molds of the lower section are then filled with cigar bunches, and the upper section restored over the same.
'lhe levers D are now raised, whereby the lein the molds are firmly compressed. The
forward motion of the lovers D is limited by means of the cross bar A, against which lowered, the levers F are relieved and raised, thus permitting the turning of the upper section over thelower one, as shown in Fig. 1, and dotted lines Fig. 2, whereby access may be had to the interior of the mold. The return motion of the levers D is limited by the stop or stops D, which project from the bed A, against which the said levers abut at the end of their downward movement, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. A cigar mold press having a frame, a lower mold section resting on'said frame, toggle levers pivoted to said frame, and connected by a cross bar, and an upper mold section having an ear forming a bearing for said cross bar, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A cigar mold-press consisting of a frame, the lovers D pivoted to said frame, and having the connected handle E, the levers F pivoted to the ends of said levers D and having the cross bar A, a lowermold section supported on said frame, and an upper mold sec-. tion with a bearing for said cross bar A said parts being combined substantially as described.
3. A cigar mold press consisting of aframe, upper and lower mold sections, toggle levers pivoted to said frame, and having a connecting cross bar with journal bearings in said upper section, said levers also having a connecting handle E, said parts being combined substantially as described.
4:. A cigar mold press having upper and lower mold sections, a bed supporting the lower section, the levers D mounted on said said levers D abut. When the levers D are
