COMBINED STOOL AND FOOT-REST.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,935, dated May 1, 1894. Application filed April 13, 1893. Serial No. 470,175- (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, PHILIP CHARLES BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at 726 Greene avenue, Brooklyn, county of Kings, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combined Stool or Seat and a Revolving Foot-Rest, of which the following is a secification.

My invention relates to combined stools and foot-rests. And the objects of my improvement are first to provide a stool or seat combined with a foot rest, to enable persons to conveniently try on boots, shoes, and other footwear. Second to provide arevolving foot rest attached to a stool, so that when not in use the foot rest can be readily turned under the seat, out of the way; third so that the revolving foot rest can be quickly turned in front of the stool, when required for use. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a plan of the stool and foot rest in position for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the foot rest being shown in the position it occupies when not in use. Figs. 3, 4:, 5, and 6 are detached details in elevation of parts of the device. Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the stool and foot rest in position for use.-

I prefer tomake my combined revolving foot rest and stool as follows:

I make a stool or seat with three legs, two at the back and one in front; this I make of wood or metal, or wood and metal combined. The two back legs may be set at an angle; the front leg (A) is set straight (vertical). I then make a metal tube or socket (G) with a flange (K) on top, and a collar or lip (L) on bottom part. I place this on the front leg (A) so as to encircle it. The flange (K) being perforated for screws is secured by screws to the under side of the seat. The tube (G) is perforated for screws and secured by screws to front leg (A) of the stool. I next makea metal tube (B) with a bracket (F) and lug with handle (E). I now place this revolving tube (B) on the front leg (A) of the stool, Y

which it encircles. I now make a metal tube or socket (H). This tube (H) has a collar or lip (L). The tube (H) is perforated for screws.

I place this tube (H) on the front leg (A) of By the above description it will be seen that by a slight movement of the handle (E), the revolving foot rest (0. D.) revolves from right to left or left to right, causing it to make over a half circle. 7 If it is desired to make the revolving foot rest describe a complete circle the handle (E) is removed from the lug on the revolving tube (B). When not in use the revolving foot rest (0. D.) is under the seat, out of the way; when in use the revolving foot rest(O. D.) is in front of the seat at any angle desired; The revolving foot rest (0. D.) is operated without removing the stool fromthe floor.

I prefer to use a stool with three legs, but a revolving foot rest may be connected with a stool with four legs, without departing from the spirit of my invention.

I am aware that'various combined seats and foot rests have been made, but I am not aware nor do I believe that there has ever been made, a stool with a revolving foot rest attached to the front leg of the stool, said front leg being the axle for the revolving footrest, and round which the foot rest revolves.

What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In combination with a stool and foot rest mounted to revolve upon one of the legs thereof, a socket piece G encircling said leg, secured thereto and provided with a lip L, a second socket piece H also encircling and secured to said leg and provided with a corresponding lip L, a revolving tube B mounted on the said leg and resting in the lips L, and a foot restsecured to and revolving with the tube B and adapted to be turned in front of or under the stool.
