Be it known that I, JAMES E. FAHY, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Die-Stocks; and I hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This inventionV has reference to improvements in die-stocks or 'devices for holding dies in position for use.
The object of the invention is `to simplify the construction of the die-stock and the cost of manufacture of the same.
The further object of the invention is to provide a new and useful changeable guide for die-stocks and to reduce the Wear thereon.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction of the die-stock with its chamber for receiving the die and the arms, or handles, adapted to be adjusted to hold the` die in the chamber and to be used for turning the die and stock.
vThe invention also consists in the peculiar construction of the guide and its novel combination with the die-stock.
The invention alsov consists insuch other novel features of construction and combination of parts as may hereinafter be more fully Y described and pointed out in the claims.,
Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of the improved die-stock. Fig. 2represents la plan view of the same partly in horizontal section. Fig. 3 represents a crosssectional view of the same.

In the drawings 5 indicates the base of the stock in which is formed a rectangular chamber, or box, 6 partially closed at the corners by the bottom portions 7, the rectangular opening 8 being cut entirely through the plate or base 5, this opening is of asize and shape corresponding to that of the box 6 and ofthe die so that when the die is lifted from the box and given a quarter turn it may be moved through the opening 8,--the base 5 is also furnished with the sleeve members 9 and 10, the bores of the sleeves being of larger diameter at the outer ends with parallel walls and contracted in diameter by two steps the central of which has a screw-thread 11. Extending inward and upward from the sleeve members and connecting them is the bridge 12 open at the sides to allow for the insertion of the die and having a collar 13 to receive the guide 14,-throngh one side of the upper portion of the bridge is a perforation in which the screw-socket 15 is secured and within the perforation is the spring-operated plunger, or latch, 16 the ,shank of which is free to move Vin the screw-socket 15 while its inner end engages theA annular recess 17 in the guide to hold the same in position, at the upper end this guide has a 'shoulder 18 to prevent the I.
undue inward movement of the guide. It is evident that the guide 'can be changed for one of smaller diameter depending on the outer diameter of the article tobe operated upon.
The lever-arms 19-19 are of any ordinary length having milled portions 2O to furnish agrip, the main diameter of these arms is slightly less than the greatest diameter of lthe bore of the sleeves 9 and 10,this diameter being reduced in proportion to the reductions in the diameter of these bores, having also screw-threaded portions 21 to engage the screw-threads 11 of the bores and the small inner ends 22 which bear on the die.
The die 23 is of the usual construction being shaped to closely tit the chamber 6 and having a 'thickness equal to the depth of this chamber. The vdie is inserted through the side opening of thebridge 12 and fitted into the chamber 6 the lever-arms 19 are then screwed inward until their ends'bear on the upper surface of the-die to hold the same in place, the inwardmovement of the lever-l arms being limited by the length of the screwthreads 11 and 2l to prevent the ends 22 interfering with the article whichvis to be operated on.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a die-stock, thecombinationpwith a base having a die recess orchamber with a central opening, a laterally-extending s leeveymember screw-threaded on its interior, a
bridge spanning the base open at the side and having a guide-collar at the top in axial alignment with the opening of the die-recess,
and a guide removably secured in said guide' collar, of a lever-arm having a screw-`thread for engaging the thread of the sleeve-member bore and adapted to be screwed inward until the inner end of the arm extends beyond the Wall of the die-recess, as described.
2. The combnationwith the base 5 having and a removable guide 14 having an annular recess 17 adapted to be engagedib'y said latch, of the arms 19-19 having ends adapted to fit the bores ofthe sleeve-members and furnished with screw threads corresponding l with the screw-threads of said bores, as and for thepurp'os'e described.
