Description

MILK GAN A TTTTTTTT T.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED D. RICHMAN, OF DARETOVVN, NEW JERSEY.
MILK-CAN ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,550, dated April 1'7, 1894. Application filed December 22.1893. sena NO. 494,434. (No man.)
To aZZ whom it may con/own:
Be it known that I, ALFRED D. RIGHMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Daretown, in the County of Salem and State of New Jersey, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Can Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, Clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.
This invention rclates to devices forsecuring lids or covers to milk cans, and has for its obj ect to permit the lid or cover to rest at any angle while Cleaning or draining the Can, or When Cooling the milk therein, and can be arranged to be entirely out of the way while emptying the Can of its contents.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fullyihereinafter described and Claimed. The accompanying drawing illustrates a perspective view of a milk can, embodying the invention'an'd`- showing the lid or cover slightly arranged.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a milk can of any preferred form -of construction having a band 2 around the upper end of the neckof the same, to which one end of a link 3 is pivotally Secured. To the upper end of the said link is movably attached a second linki as at 5, and across the top of the lid extends a bar 6 which has its inner end movably secured to the upper end of the link 4 to thereby form a fiexible joint and permit the lid to rest at any angle desired. This construction is duplicated on opposite sides.
The entire device forlns a fiexible joint which may be Constructed either of plates, as shown in the drawing, or of links formed of iron or wire, which will give precisely the same result and will be mechanical equivalents. The joint as set forth permits the lid to be raised at any desired angle or entirely thrown back and held in such position and after the lid or Cover is closed down, in the neck, it will be sustained in this position until otherwise operated.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- In combination' with a milk can cover, of a concavo-convex bar extending diametrically across the top of the same and secured thereto, links movably attached to the opposite ends of the said bar and lower links pivotally oonnected to the lower ends of the first mentioned links andhaving their opposite ends Connected to the outer portions of the band around the upper portion of the neck of the can proper said links being of such length as to permit the Cover to be swung backward and Clear of the neck, and When said cover is in engagement with the neck said links are adapted to fall downwardly 011 the outer side of the neck, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two Subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED D. RICHMAN.
