CYRUS A. KNAUER, OF POTTSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- .THIRDS TO JOHN H. GEIGER AND HENRY HIMELRIGHT, OF SAME PLACE.
CHALK-HOLDER'FOR' BILLIARD OR OTHER CUES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,068, dated April 10, 1894. Application filed October 5,1893. Serial No. 487,240. (No model.) d
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS A. KNAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pottstown, in the county of Montgomery, State of 5 Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chalk-Holders for Billiard or other Ones, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
[ My invention consists of an improvement in a chalk holder for billiard and other ones, formed of a casin g composed of separate parts, as hereinafter described whereby the chalk may be inclosed and sustained, and prevents Iv abstraction of the chalk, and the one tip may be readily guided to the same, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure l representsa perspective view of a chalk holder embodying my invention. Fig.
2 represents a side elevation thereof, with I part removed. Fig. 3 represents a sectional View with the part removed. Fig. 4 represents an end view of the parts when separated.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- 2 5 sponding parts in the several figures.
" Referring to the drawings: A designates a billiard chalk holder, which is formed of the parts B and O. The part B consists of a top, bottom and back piece, and open sides for the insertion of a piece of chalk into said parts. The edges of said pieces are beveled, as are those of the part 0, see Fig. 4-, so that said edges form locking joints when the part 0 is held on the part 'B.
D designates an arm, the same having a shoulder E, and screw F, whereby the holder may be firmly connected with a table or other article to which it is applied. 7
In the part 0 is a mouth G to receive a one tip, and an opening H is formed in the wall back of the mouth G for the insertionv of a tool or implement, as a pry, for easily separating the part B from the part 0, should they stick or tightly adhere.
The operation is as follows: The holder is screwed or otherwise secured to a table, 850. When the part 0 is removed, a piece of chalk may be inserted in the part B, and the part 0 is then replaced, thus inclosing the piece of chalk, leaving a side of the same exposed at the mouth G, when a one may be inserted and worked against the chalk, the effect of which is evident. When the chalk is exhausted, the part 0 may be removed and the chalk replenished.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A chalk holder consisting of two detachable parts one of said parts havinga top, bo'ttom and back piece, with an arm provided with a shoulder and an attaching screw, and the other part having sides adapted to engage the back ofthe first mentioned part, and with an opening for the insertion of a one, said parts being combined substantially as described. v 2. A chalk holder consisting of the detachable parts B and C, said part B having a top, bottom and back piece, with an arm having an attaching screw, and said part 0 having an openingG therein and formed of sides adapted to engage with the top, bottom and back of said piece B forming a chamber for the chalk, said parts being combined substantially as described.
3. A chalk holder consisting of two detachable parts one of which has a top, bottom and back piece, with means substantially as described for attaching the same to a table, the. other part having a mouth therein to receive the one tip, and provided with sides, each of which engages said top and bottom piece, said latter part having an opening formed in the wall of the mouth thereof, substantially as described.
I CYRUS A. KNAUER. Witnesses.-
