' l V UNITED" STATES PATENT Qu nton WALTER OGDEN, or SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
GARMENT-SU'F PORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters I Eatent No. 517,658, dated April 3,1894.
I Application filed August 21 189\3- Serial Ila- N I .Be it known that I, WALTER OGDEN, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following, taken in' connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full,-
clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to the class of garment supporters in which a metallic plate is provided at one end with a slot or other suitable means for gripping thegarme'nt'to be supported and has connected to its opposite end, a band by which'to fasten the supporter to the limb of the person.
The object of the invention is to provide the garment gripping plate with more efficient means for securely and adj ustably attaching the supporting band thereto. And to that end the invention consists in the improved construction and combination of the component parts of the garment supporter as hereinafter described and specifically set forth in the claims.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is aface view of a garment supporter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Figs. 3 3116.4: are detached face views respectively of the garment gripping plate and clam ping plate, and Figs. 5 and Gare face and end views of modifications of my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the garment gripping plate which is elongated and provided at one end with suitable means for engaging and retaining a portion of the hose or other gar ment to be supported, which meansare in this case represented of the form of a longitudinal slot -ctwhich converges-at its lower end' to pinch or .grip the portion of the garment inserted therein. To the opposite end is adjustably connected the clamping plate --b so as to permit the supporting band d* to be clamped between said plate. I preferably form the plate -a with a slight depression -cfor the reception of the aforesaid band, and provide the overlying clamping plate --bwith serrations -ito firmly grip the band d. To simplify the contransverse slot ctand form one end of the plate *b with a tongue-'-b' which passes through the slot a'- and is bent into an ofiset -b"- to allow the free end of said tongue to lie closely to the side of the plate a% Said connection forms a detachable hinge which allows the clamping plate to either swing on the hinge or to be entirely removed ,from the plate a when desired opposite end of the clamping plate -b is detachably secured to the plate -a by a suitable locking device, two forms of which I have illustrated in the annexed drawings. One conthe plate, a, passing through an eye in as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. And the other consisting of a tongue -t formed on the end of the plate a-and passing through, a slot t' in the plate -'b. The protruding end of said tongue being perforated for the reception: of the pin lwhich looks the parts together as illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings. In order to obtain a more secure hold on the band'-d- I provide the plate bwith a slot c. through which to pass the ends of the band -d. The edges of. said slot biting theband serves as auxiliary holds thereon. The band d-.-=- is readily adjusted to the size of the persons limb by loosening the nut n sufficiently to allow the clamp bto release the band and allow it to be slipped lengthwise in the slot -cto either contract or expand the loop designed to embrace the limb, and when it is necessary to renew the band -cl-, it is with equal facility completely withdrawn from the slot -c and a new band inserted therein and subsequently fastened by clamping the plate b--.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A garment supporter consisting of the hinged at one end to the. gripping plate and provided with the slot -c-, a locking device detachably connecting the opposite end of the plate .bto the plate -a., and the supporting band -d-- clamped between the gripping plate a-, the clamping plate -b-'.
struct'ion I provide the plate a witha I i to remove the supporting band -d The 6 3 sisting of ascrew-threaded stud-pin h on the plate band provided with a 'nutnaforesaid plates and passing with its ends band d clampedbetween the plate -bthrough the slots -csubstantially as setand recessed portion of the plate aand forth and shown. passing with its ends through the slot -c- 2. The combination of the plate aprosubstantially as described and shown.
