Description
(N'o Model.)
A. SIMON.-` CORNER PIECE FOR ROOM MOLDINGS No. 517,307. Patented Mar. 27, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR SIMON, OF' ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CORNER-PIECE FOR ROOM-MOLDINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 517,307, dated March 27, 1894.
Application led July 24, 1893. Serial No. 481.313. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR SIMON, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner-Pieces for Room-Moldings, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to an improvement in corner pieces for room moldings, and consists in the novel arrangement, combination and construction of partsas will be more f nlly hereinafter described and ydesignated in the claims.
In the drawings: Figure l is a front elevation of my invention showing it applied to room moldings in an angle. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my invention showing it connected to the room molding at a corner. Fig. 3 is a plan View showing my invention applied to the room moldng'at an angle. Fig. 4 is a plan view of my invention showing it applied to the room molding in a corner. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a plan view of my invention showing it as it is stamped out before it is bent to conform to the moldings.
1 indicates a room molding -which is of coinmon construction, 2 an ear which projects along the front edge of the molding and is bent to conform with the same.
3 indicates springs which have teeth 4 on their ends, said springs being bent at right angles a little back of the saw-teeth for the purpose hereinafter mentioned.
5 indicates projections which are formed on the lower end of the corner piece and are bent upward to engage the lower portion 6 of the room molding.
Y The operation is as follows: It is Well known that in putting room moldings up, the angles and corners are not always square, therefore it is very difficult to make the molding fit at the angles and corners. To apply my invention to an open corner or angle the projections 5 are slipped back of the lower portion 6 of the room molding 1, and the springs 3 being bent downwardly adjacent their ends they engage the back of the room molding l and retain the same in position. When it is desired to remove my invention from a corner or angle the springs are raised up,thus disengaging the teeth 4 from the picture molding 1, allowing my invention to be readily detached.
I also wish to state that my invention can be made plain or ornamental and can be made from sheet-brass, steel, copper, or any suitable material.
1. As a new article of manufacture a corner-piece for room-moldings, bent to conform to the angle of a corner of a room, the lower portion thereof having projections constructed to engage the back portion of a room molding, and a spring formed upon the upper portion, said spring being bent at an angle to engage the top portion of said molding and hold the corner-piece thereon, substantially as herein specified.
2. A corner-piece for room moldings bent to conform to the angle of a corner of aroom, the lower portion having projections constructed to engage the back portion of a room molding, springs formed on the upper portion, teeth formed in the end of said springs, and said springs bent at right angles adjacent the ends which are next adjacent said' teeth, whereby said teeth may engage the top portion of said molding and hold the cornerpiece in position during use, substantially as herein specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR SIMON. Witnesses:
A. A. BLANKENMINSTEE, JN0. C. HIGDON.
