TAILORS MEASURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,511, dated February 2'7, 1894. Application filed September 25, 1893. Serial No. 486,566- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J ANOS A. ALM, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tailors Measures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in a certain new and improved measuring device designed for tailors, cutters and the like by means of which the taking of the measure for coats and vests may be simplified and the cutting more accurately and easily performed,
The device is illustrated in the drawings by means of two figures, of which- Figure 1 is a side view showing the application of my device and Fig. 2 is a perspective of the device itself on a larger scale.
I take a strip A, preferably of spring metal and having a lateral extension or arm B, and shape the strip A, to the curvature of the forward side portion of the chest and the extension B, to fit around beneath the arm. Upon the end of the extension B, and the top of the strip A, I secure flexible straps 0, having near their ends hooks 0, set far enough back, however, to leave flaps c by means of which the strips may be grasped. Upon the lower portion of the strip A, I prefer a slideway or guiding strip D, secured to the strip A, at the bottom and at the point lettered a. This guide strip is notched at d, and carries a ring e, to which is secured a measuring tape E.
In use the device is fastened to the clothing as seen in Fig. 1,by means of the hooks c, and the measurements taken with the tape E. The usual measurements are taken from the point a, and the notches d. If other measurements are to be taken notches may be provided at any necessary point.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with the strip A, having the lateral extension B, and the straps O,provided with hooks c, of the guiding strip D, marked at predetermined points and the tape E, arranged to slide upon the guiding strip; substantially as shown and described.
