Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE6 JOSEPH YV. BATTELLE, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,542, dated December 19, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH W. BATTELLE, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain n ew and useful Improvements in Knife Polishers and Cleaners, of which the following` is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, which make a part of this specification, and in Which- Fignre l represents a longitudinal central section, and Fig.'2 represents a bottom View of the knife polisher and cleaner.
In the drawings, A represents the handle of the device, the enlarged base B of which has a groove, a', turned in the bottom or lower surface, into which is fitted a ring, C, of vulcanized rubber or any other suitably-elastic material.
Ring C may be fastened in by glue, or in any proper mannerwhereby it can be retained in position. l
The operation is as follows: The operator places in the space b in the center of ring C a suitable quantity of polishing material then grasping the handle A with the hand, applies the lower surface, c, of ring C to the knife or other article to be cleaned and polished, which should be placed upon some rm support, when, by a few back-and-forth motions of the hand, a clean, bright surface of the knife or other article will be produced.
My polisher can be used with good success when the polishing material is first placed upon the knife, or when placed upon a side stand or board, from which it can be removed by simply applying the surface C to the polishing material.
My device is a simple, cheap, but most effective one, as has been proved by actual practical tests. ,Y
Having described my improved' knife-polisher, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved knife-polisher in Which all the parts are constructed, arranged, and combined in relation to each other as shown and described.
JOSEPH W. BATTELLE.
