WILHELM MUMBRAUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IVIEFRY-CO-ROUNDIl SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,088, dated February 20, 1894.
Application filed November 23, 1893. Serial No. 491,719- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, WILHELM MUMBRAUER, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented an Improved Merry- Go-Round, of which the following is a speciiicaton.
This invention relates to a merry go round provided with two platforms that revolve in opposite directions.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical central section of my improved merry go round. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through part of the same, on line m, oc, Fig. 1.
The letter d, represents the upright stationary post of the merry go round lirmlysecured to the ground or to arbase. Around the post a, revolves an upper annular platform b, and a lower annular platform c, which is so much larger than the upper platform, that it eX- `tends beyond the outer edge of the same to a considerable extent. A flange b' of platform b, extends over the inner edge of platform c, to conceal the same. The upper platform b, is supported upon a collar d, by means of braces d', the collar d, being free to revolve upon a fixed collar ct', of post a. Motion is imparted to platform b, from a power shaft e, and bevel gear e', e2, the wheel c2, being perforated for the passage of the braces d', to which such wheel is bolted.
To the platform b, there is secured the cog wheel f, revolving with the platform and meshing into the cog wheel f', of an upright shaft f2, the upper cog wheel f3, of which engages an internally toothed spur gear f4, Secured to the revoluble roof g. To this roof the lower platform c, is secured by means of the hanger c'. A fixed central platform h, is secured to the post a, by means of radial arms h', and hangers h2, and covers the central opening of the upper annular platform b.
In use, motion is imparted to the merry go round from the power shaft, so as to revolve the two platforms l), c, in opposite directions and at varying speed, so that a novel and pleasing effect is attained.
1. The combination of an inner revoluble platform b, with a cog wheel f, secured thereto, a revoluble roof g, a spur gear f4, secured thereto, an upright shaft f2, intergeared with wheels f, f4, and an outer platform c, suspended from the roof, substantially as specified.
2. The combination in a merry go round of the following elements: platforms b, c, collar d, braces d', cog wheels e', e2, f, f, rod f2, cog
wheels f3, f4, roof g, and hangers c', substantially as specified.
