D RESS PROTECTOR TRIMMINGp SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,027, dated February 20, 1894.

Be it known that I, GEORGE H. TAYLOR, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Trim ming for Apparel, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new construction of trinning which is particularly adapted for use as adress protector, but which may also be used on other parts ot ladies and children s garnents.
The invention consists in a trinning which is provided with a plain longitudinally extending tubular portion, having a stiffener.
therein, a doubled corrugated portion projecting therefrom, the corrugations of which extend at an angle to the longitudinally extending portion.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a face View of ny improved trimming, showing it applied to a portion of ordinary fabric; Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-section of the trim ming, partly also in perspective; and Fig. 3 is a reverse view of that which is represented in Fig. 1.
In the drawngs the letter A represents the trinming. This trinning is produced from a strip of fabric which is doubled or laid around a cord B, or analogous stiffener, forminga tube a around said cord. From this tube the strip of fabric is eXtended outward and is doubled preferably as shown at b, and this doubled portion placed against the edge or portion c of the strip that likewise protrudes from the tube a. In other words, starting with the edge c of the strip, it will be seen that said strip forms said edge c, next forms a tubular longitudinally extending portion a, and then forms the doubled elongated portion b which lies against the edge portion o. A line of stitching d may be employed to confine the parts in the described relation. That part of the strip of fabric which forns the doubled portion b is corrugated, fluted, or otherwise undulated, the corrugations extending at an angle to the longitudinally extending plain portion, while the remainder of said strip of fabrc is not so nndulated. The first eftect of this corrugation is to round the entire strip in mannerindicated in Fig. 1, since the corrugation produces a shortening in the part b without in oorresponding manner shortening the part a. I-Ience the corrugation adapts the strip of fabric to the form needed as a dress-protector, allowing it however, to be used also as a straight trimming whenever needed. The strip A thus forrned may be stitched by a row of stitches e to the ordinary fabric D which is' to carry the trimning, and it desired the outer end of the corrugated portion b may also be united to the fabric D by stitches f.
It is evident that my improved strip, in*- stead of being made of a single piece of fabric, may if desired be conposed of several pieces, all When united forming substantially what is shown with reference to the strip constituting the parts c a and b.
The trinming is intended to be so applied to the fabric D that on one side the corru gated portion b and the tubular portion a, will appear to View (as in Fig. 1), while on the other side (see Fig. nothing but the tubular portion a will be visible. s
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The trirnning, substantially as herein described, the same consisting of a plain, longitudinally extending, tubular portion, having a stiffener therein, a doubled corrugated portion projecting therefrom, the corrugations of which extend at an angle to the longitudinal plain portion, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
2. Theinprovedtrimming herein described, the same consisting of a folded strip of fabric having a plain, longitudinally extending tubular portion a,doubled corrugated projecting portion b, an edge c in contact with the corrugated portion, stiftener B contained within said tubular portion, a line of stitches adjacent thereto for securing said stifiener therein, substantially as and for the purposes specified. i
