Be it known that I, WILL M. KINNARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton', in the countyof Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Memorandum-Sales-Slip Y Cases, of which the following is a full, clear,

and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part `of this specification.

My invention relates to certain improvements in the construction and arrangement of these cases, the novel features of which will be hereinafter more-particularly pointed out and claimed.

Fig. 4, is a sectional side view ofthe front portion lof the device taken on lines lt--tofFigLv y M The arrangement of the package for holding the sales and recordslips and the feed mechanism by which the record strip is fed from its package are such as have been fully described in my application for Letters Patent, Serial No.1460,564, iled February l, 1893,

and they form no part of my invention here.

A, represents the bottom,B, B, the sides, and C the rear end'of .a suitable case to hold the paper packages, to Ywhich end C ils hinged the coverAhavinga writing opening cut therein of suitable size. The paper strips c', the original, and d', the duplicate, are folded separately in zigzag folds and inclosed in a paper package so that'the ends of the strips will deliver out of the slot cut in the end a of the package. While the record strip b is also folded in bellows folds and inclosed in a packv age, the top c of which forms the writing tablet upon which the writings are made, the record strip being delivered out of the front end of its package and over the top portion D of the case. The original and duplicate strips are passed around the roller b and back over the upper surface of the package inthe usual way. The strips being drawn out to the front end of the case, the cover A is brought down over' the strips and held shut by asuitable catch. The record strip passesk from its package over the top D of the case and down into'the compartment E through the slot h and over the corrugated roller F which is mounted loosely on the shaft Gr. Secured yto the shaft by the arms 0,0, is a rod d, carrying grippers ,e, mounted thereon. A coiled spring f, the ends of which bear against each o f these grippers andsecured on the pin g on the rod, holds these grippers within the' corrugatons of the roller.

All the parts above described are old and shown in my former applicationl above referred to and they form no part of my invention here, the novel features of which consist of my movable front to enable the user to readily grasp the paper to draw same from the' case, and in my arrangement for actuating the feed mechanism which will now be described. l

Heretofore the feed mechanism has been actuated by the movement of a guide bar, or of the lid, or by the knife bar, and one of the chief features of my invention consists in my new method of actuating the feed mechanism.

Another novel feature consists in the movsecure this movable front portion vH toabar K extending across the entire front of the case just Within the front Wall. This movable portion H, as illustrated inthe drawings forms about one third of the front and the fixed front wall Z, Z, about two-thirds thereof, but it will be evident that the entire front may be mademovable and secured to the bar K. This bar K has secured at each end and extending inward at right angles thereto two collars M, M. These ,collars ride upon the rods N, N, which are supported by and secured to the blocks or standards m, m. Pivoted to the barK between the lugs n, n, thereon and to side arms c, e, of the gripper rod d, are the connecting links p, `p, which thus connect the bar K with the gri pper-rod and grippers. When the user endeavors to grasp the paper strips c d 'to draw them from the case, he will push in the front H and thus, feed the record strip the proper distance, While spring s bearing between the standards m and collars M will return the front H to its normal position and with it the grippers Will also be returned to their normal position. The roller F Will be held in its new position by the pawl f which. is secured to the case and engages the. corrugations of the roller at one edge. It will ofcourse be understood, that` the front portion IfI of the case may be extended behind and on each side of the fixed portions 1,1, of the caseand that it may itself form the bar-K, and also` that other Ways of connecting said movablefront to the feed mechanism may be employed as` will readily suggest themselves without departing from the spirit of my in-` Vention. A thumbopening is cut in the outer edge, of the lid A", to enable theuser to readily grasp. the. paper when he has pushed in the front II and the strips of paper are drawn out and torn` om against the front of the case.

It willbe understood that the novel features of my device herein described are not to` be limited totheparticular form of sales slip case shown, but they can be equally well used with other forms` of cases and with the various forms of autographic registersA in use, without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isf- 1. In a sales slip case, the combination of the case shaped to form an opening to enable the operator to grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected within said opening and. actuated in the grasping of said slips, feeding mechanism for the record strip, and operating means` for the feed mechanismactuated by the movement of the movable piece, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a sales slipcase, the combination of the case shaped to form an opening to enable the operator to grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected within said opening and actuated in the grasping of said slips, feed roller for the record strip, and operating mechanism for said feed roller actuated by the movement of said movable piece, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a'sales slip case, the combination of the case shaped to form an opening to enable the operator to grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected within said opening and actuated in the grasping of said slips, feed roller with grippers acting thereon to grasp and feed the record strip, and operating mechanism for said feed device, actuated by the movement of said movable piece, substantially as shown and described.

4. In a sales slip case, the combination of the case shaped to form an opening to enable i the operatorio grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected within said opening and actuated in the grasping of said slips, grippers to` hold and grasp the record strip, roller co-operating therewith, and means for operating said grippers to feed the record strip,snbstantially as shown and described.

5. In a sales slip case, the combination of the case shaped to form an opening to enable the operator to grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected Within said opening and` actuated in the grasping of, Said. 8. In a sales slip case, the combination of the case shaped to forman opening toenable the operator to grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected within saidopening and actuated in the grasping of said slips, roller over which the record strip is` passed La rock bar, with spring grippers thereon to grasp and hold the recordg strip, on said roller and means for rocking said rock` baractuated by the movement of said movable piece, substantially as shown and described.

9. In a sales slipcase, the combination of the case shaped to forman opening to enable the operator to grasp the paper slips, and a movable piece projected Within said opening, and actuated in the grasping of said slips, a corrugated roller over which the record strip is passed, rock bar with spring grippers thereon to engage the corrugations of said roller, and means for rocking said, rock bar, actuated by the movements of said movable piece, substantially as shown and described.
