NITED STATES PATENT Ormess .ROBERT P. PEARSON, OF GLEN RIDDLE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE DUTCHER TEMPLE COMPANY, OF HOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS.
LOOM-TEM PLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,86*?, dated February 13, 1894. I
Application tiled August 12, 1893. Serial No. $83,010. (No model.)
for application to looms for weaving cloth or other fabrics; and it relates more particularly to the construction and arrangement of a loom temple for such purposes.
The principal objects of my invention are, iirsttto provide a simple, durable, efficient and lneXpensive temple for application to looms `adapted for weaving-cloth and other fabrics; second, to provide a loom-temple so constructed and arranged as to be adjustable in connection with the breast-beam of the loom to adapt the same to the required width of cloth being Woven third, to provide a loom-temple having an adjustable and detachable breast-beam slotted clamping device connected witha transverse support or holder for the carrier of a pivotal-pod having an internal fixed roll provided with a revoluble perforated tube, the arrangement being such as that the temple may be set nearer to or farther from' the reed, in order to adapt the same to the requirements of a fabric being woven in theloom fourth, to providea loom-tem ple with an adjustable breast-beam clamp adj ustably connected with a holder for a spring controlled detachable carrier provided with an adjustable pivotal pod, in order that the same may be caused to assume required different positions with respect to the position of the shuttle race-board of the loom; fifth, to provide a loom temple with a vertically adjustablepivotal-pod and with a latch for locking the same to required position and with a slotted carrier provided with a spring controlled spindle detachably connected with la holder adjustably connected with aslotted breastbeam clamping-device; sixth, to provide a loom-temple with an adjustable breast-beam clamping plate connected with a transverse slotted holder for an adjustable and detachable spring controlled pod-carrier having an adjustable depending finger so arranged as to permit of to and fro movement of the carrier in the operation of the loom; and seventh, to provide a longitudinally and horizontally adjustable and detachable loom temple adapted for employment in looms for weaving cloth and other fabrics and so constructed and arranged as to perform the functions and purposes hereinafter fully described.
My invention consists of aloom-temple constructed and arranged for operation in substantially the manner hereinafter described andclaimed.
The nature, objects and general features of my invention will be more fully understood from the following'description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof; and in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of a loomtemple embodying features of my invention.
Fig. 2, is a similar view of the pivotal-pod of similar view of the breast-beam slotted clamping-plate with its grooved or recessed seat for the reception of and for supporting the adj ustabletransverse holder for the pod carrier plate of Fig. 2, by means of a securing device caused to engage said seat and the walls of the slotted portion of the holder. Fig. 4, is a similar view detached of the adjustable holder for the carrier plate of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5, is a transverse central section through the pivotal-.pod in a closed position with the pivotal latch therefor in engagement with the cap thereof.
Referring to the drawings A, is the breastbeam clamping plate provided with an oblong slot a, in the body thereof for the reception of a threaded stud-bolt a', for adj ustably securing the same to the breast-beam of a loom.
This clamping-plate A, is provided preferably 9 5 with integral depending fingers 0.3 and a4, for
vtoo
a, is a recessed seat formed integral with the clamping plate A, with end guides orpiiojecting walls a and a7, and with a projection as, having a central threaded aperture therein.
B, is a holder or oblong plate provided with a loop b, a baclcstop b', and a bearing-post b2. This slotted holder or plate B, engages with the recessed seata, of the clamping plate A, with the loop extension b, thereof in enzo gagement with the surface of the projection as, and adj ustably supported to position in contact with the ways or guides a6 and al, and projection as, of the plate A, by means of a headed-screw or stud-bolt b4,aud washer I5 b5, thus affording the means, whereby the holder B, may be adjusted laterally with respect to the clamping plate A, as requirements demand in the weaving of a fabric in the loom.
C, is the pod-carrier plate provided with an oblong slot c, enlargedv at one end as at c', for admitting the back-stop or post b2, into the slotted portion c, of the carrier C.
At the outer end of the slotted portion of 2 5 the carrier C, is provided a vertical projection or lug c2, having a horizontal spindle c3, formed preferably integral therewith and around which is coiled a spring c4.
c5, is a slot formed in the body of the car- 3o rier-plate C, beyond the oblong slot c, for the reception of the shank c5, of preferably a depending recessed finger c7, which is secured to position in said slot c5, by means of a bolt and nut cw. This adjustable finger c7, affords 3 5 the means whereby a movable member of the loom by being actuated may be brought into engagement with said finger so as to permit of the reciprocation of the pod-carrier plate C, in a forward direction either rapidly or 4o slowly according to the location of the finger c7, and in such manner as that it may be returned to its initial position by the force of the coiled spring c4, of the spindle c3, of the carrier plate C, for enhancing the effective action of the temple in its connection with a 100m of the type in which such devices are employed for maintaining the cloth or other fabric taut during the weaving thereof.
D, is the pod comprising a bottom trough 5o d, with integral vertical projecting lugs d and d2, and with an angular slotted heel piece cl3, which engages by means of a tightening screw or bolt d4, with the recessed end c, of the carrier plate C, provided with a re- 5 5 cessed seat c, for the head d, of the bolt d4.
d6, is the cap of the pod pivotally connected with the lips or lugs d and d2, and provided with a rigidly secured roll C17, detachably connected to a rear depending tongue (Z8, formed 6o preferably integral with the wall of the cap da, by means of a stud-bolt d", with a metal washer d10, applied thereto. Around the roll (i7, is mounted a perforated or grater like surfaced tube or cylinder d, for enabling the 6 5 fabric to be lirmly nipped and held while the same is being woven and preparatory to the same being conveyed onto the cloth roll of the loom, not shown, for permitting subsequently of the removal of the completed fabric from the loom.
d, is a latch pivotally connected with the heel-piece cl3, and adapted to be brought into engagement with the recessed face d, of the pod-cap d, for firmly holding the revoluble perforated and roughened surface tube d, of the pod D, into contact with the cloth, as Well as affording the means to permit of the ready release of the perforated tube of the cap from the cloth upon the release of the latch from its seat dm, in the surface of the cap d, as hereinbeforc described and as fully illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The slotted heel piece d3, affords the means through the intervention of the tightening screw engaging the walls thereof, whereby the pivotal pod may be adjusted vertically with respect to the carrierplate C, in order to compensate for requirements of the temple with respect to the type of loom in which it is employed.
The carrier plate C, with its oblong slot presents the means, whereby in the event of it becoming necessary to rip out the warp or to insert a rod when the end of the warp has been reached in the loom, the pod-carrier plate C, may be readily removed from its engagement with the back-stop b', of the holder plate B, through the enlarged end of the slotted portion of said plate, for such purposes as well as others, and which will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, without further eX- planation.
It will be manifestly obvious that as to minor details modifications maybe made without departing from the spirit of myinvention.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
