GHURN-OPE RATING MECHANISM.
SPECIFICATION forming partofLetters Patent No. 514,636, dated February 13, 1894. Application filed July 16,1893. SerialNo-480,659. (No model) To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER COLUM- BUS WARREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hattiesburg, in the county of Perry and State of Mississippi, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Churn-Operating Mechanisms, of which the following is a specification,
The invention relates to improvements in body. o
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

ll designates a bracket frame having a casing open at its outer end and one side and composed of a back 2, a top and bottom 3 and 4, which are secured to the back, and sides 5 and 6 secured to the top and bottom and to the back of the frame. The top, bottom and sides form a box-like casing or frame, and the side 6 extends onlya short distance from the back leaving the frame open. The back 2 projects above and below the box. portion of the frame, and is provided with perforations for the reception of securing devices for fastening the frame to a wall or other suitable support; and the frame may be arranged at any desired elevation to suit the height of the churn body -7 employed.
The top and bottom 3 and i of the frame are provided with L-shaped bearing recesses 9 and 10, which are arranged at the open portion of the frame, and which receive a movable dasher shaft 11; and the latter is adjustably secured in the frame by asheave or drum 11, which is provided with a set screw 12 for engaging the dasher-shaft. The drum 11 is arranged within the frame between the top and bottom thereof, and prevents the shaft 11 moving vertically after the same has been adjusted; and the set screw 152 permits the shaft to be raised and lowered to bring a dasher 13 at the desired elevation to suit the quantity of cream being churned. The dasher 13 is provided with an elliptical opening, and is preferably formed integral with the dasher shaft and is capable of effecting a rapid production of butter. Thedasher is vibrated or reversely rotated by an operating cord or rope 14:, which is centrally fastened to the drum, and which has its ends wound around the same in opposite directions. The endsof the cord or rope 14 are provided with handles 15, which enable the churn to be readily oper ated.
It will be seen that the churn operating mechanism is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction, that the bracket frame which carries the dasher mechanism may be readily secured at any desired elevation to suit the size of a churn body, andthat the dasher shaft may be adjusted vertically in order to cause the dasher to operate with the greatest advantage on the contents of the churn body.
Changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention;
