WiTNESSES mvemon: W J flfi/ ATTORNEYS NITED STATES PATENT rric,
JACOB O. POOLE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE NEW JERSEY BLOWER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CENTRIFU GAL BLOWER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 514,625, dated February 13, 1894.
' Application filed December 6, 1893- Serial No. 492,913. (No model.) I
To call whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ACOB O.'POOLE, a citizen of the United States, residing in Newark, county of Essex, and Stateof New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Blowers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in centrifugal blowers and it consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which is a side elevation partly broken away of my improved blower, a represents the shell or casing consisting of two halves bolted together as at b and provided with a central opening 0 and outlet or discharge d. On either side of the shell or and fixed thereto are the vertical brackets c which form the supports or bearings for the power shaft f which traverses the shell (1. Secured to the shaft f is a spider g which rotates with said shaft and is provided with ring it which registers and makes a substantially air-tight joint with a similar ring t surrounding the opening 0 of the easing. Secured to the spider g and carried thereby is a drum which is formed of the two side plates 7c and m and the curved hood or roof plates n and a back plate 0. The outlet openings 19 of each chamber of the drum are in a plane radial to the center of the shaft f and the back plates 0 are also arranged radially to said shaft f. The inlet openings g of each chamber are approximately of the same area asthe outlet openings 10.
In operation the drum is rapidly revolved in the direction of the arrow and a suction is thereby created at the central opening 0 of the shell and the air is discharged into the shell and forced out through the outlet cl.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a blower, the combination of the shell provided with a central opening and an outlet, the shaft traversing the shell and aspider secured to said shaft, with a drum secured to said spider, said drum consisting of the side plates, the curved roof plates and the back plates, arranged so that the outlet opening of said plates and the back plates are all radial to the shaft, substantially as described.
2. In a blower a drum consisting of the side plates the curved roof plates and the back plates, said back plates and the outlet openings formed at the ends of the roof and side plates being arranged radially with respect to the center of said drum, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of December, 1893.
JACOB O. POOLE.
