UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN LOOHNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHOW-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 514,268, dated February 6, 1894.
Applioationfiled January 14, 1893. Serial No. 458,320. (No model) To all whom it may concerm Be it known that I, JOHN LooHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases, of which the following is a specifioation.
This invention relates to an improved construction of show-cases, by which the objectionable moldin g that extends around the top panel of the show-cases heretofore in use is dispensed with, so that the entire top-plate lof the show-case up to its edge can be used for exhibiting articles, while also a more ornamental appearanee is imparted to the showcase; and the invention consists of a showcase in which the top-plate is made of glass extended over the top moldings of the side and end-panele.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a Vertical longitudinal section of my improved show-case, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the top-plate and B the side-panels, B' the end- -panels of my improved show-case. The topplate A is made of a glass-plate of suitable thickness according to the size of the showcase and is supported on the top .moldings b b' of the frames of the side and end-panels of the show-case, the said top-plate being flush with or extendingover the top moldings of said panels, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.
The top plateA is attached to the top molding of the s'ide and end panels B B' by means of countersunk screws d d, which pass through holes drilled into the top-plate A, said screws holding the same firmly in position on the moldings of the side and end-panels. By my construction, the covering glass plate is pressed firmly on the top-moldings of the side and end-panels, so that thedust is excluded from the case and furthermore the settling of dust at the edge of the covering glass-plate in the recess of the top-molding prevented. As my covering glass-plate is attached to the topmoldings by the fastening screws, it imparts greater strength to the case, permitting the use of much smaller top-moldings for the side and end-panels, so that the glass-plates in the front and end-panels can be made considerably larger, whereby the free access of light to the interior of the case is increased. My construction is also much simpler than the ordinary show case as it lessens the amount of work required to groove and fit the molding around the glass of the ordinary show case.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A show case comprisinga frame having side and end panels, a glass top plate extending entirely over said frame to the extreme outer edge thereof, said plate being provided with holes opposite said frame, and fastening devices extending through said holes and engaging said frame.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN LOCHNER.
