that is herein described pertains, is of thatv class in which a husking pin is provided with 'a loop strap which is also Va guard strap for' the forefinger, adj ustabie loop straps for the other lingers, and a guard strap between the husking pin and part of the fingers and hand.

The objectof this invention is to produce a corn husker of the class referred to which will be economic of manufacture, durable, strong, easily and positively adjustable, efficient in operation, and in which the parts are substitutive, and the parts most subject to wear are separate from the other parts and easily removable when they become worn, for substitution of duplicates thereof; and to this end and object myinvention consists in novel structural features and novel organizations of parts producing the composite structure, my improved husker, hereinafter described, and particularly specified in the claims forming part of this specification.

Acorn husker embodyingthe preferred constructive forms of and showing the organization of the parts forming the subject matter of my improvement, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-v Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved husker; Fig. 2, a side elevation of parts, and sectional elevation of other parts; Fig. 3, a perspective of the forefinger loop and guard strap, prepared ready for bending and securing to the husking pin; Fig. 4, a perspective without the forefinger guard; Fig. 5, a sectional elevation in the line 5, 5, in Fig. 4.

The husking pinAis ofordinary construction, having an outer pointed end part a, preferably curved lengthwise of itself, and semi-circular in its cross section, so as to have a fiat side a', substantially as shown, and has a sleeve d2 screw threaded onto its back end part, which sleeve has fixed thereto an'eye a,

that is elongated transversely of the husking pin A. A sleeve a4 is also seated so that it may be slid or revolved on the pin A, and is also provided with an eye a5 that is elongated transversely of the husking pin A. The pin A has also an eye ct? that is elongated transversely thereof.

The husking pin A as described, and with the sleeve a2 adjustable as described toward and from the eye a, for the purpose of adjusting the Vloop straps which they carry to fit hands of different sizes, is shown in Letters Patent No. 429,475, issued to me June 3, 1890. As shown herewith, however, the eye a6 the longer way of itself is oblique tothe plane of the fiat side a of the pin A, and the sleeves a2, a4, are adjusted to retain the eyes which they respectively carry, in line with the eye a6, so as to carry the {inger loops hereinafter described projecting radially from the pinA obliquely to the flat side a of said pin, for a novel purpose, hereinafter described.

Apart of the strap Bis folded transversely of itself upon the part of the pin A which rests upon the second, third and fourth fingers and part of the hand, to form a guard between the pin and said fingers and hand, and has apertures b which receive the shanks of the eyes d3, a5, to hold the strap in place on thepin,and at its front end b is turned or/ curved outwardly from the pin A, as shown,

and has a transverse slot b2 therein, for purposes hereinafter described.

The central part of the loop strap C passes through the eyes a3, a5, and through the slot b2 in the forward end b of the guard strap B, and thence through the eye a6 to form a loop or receptacle c for the little finger, and a loop or receptacle c2 for the second and third iingers,.and its ends 03,04, are turned backwardly from the eyes d3, a6, respectively, over the loops c and c2, to where they are united by a buckle c5. The turned back end c4 also passes through the slots b2. By adjusting the sleeves a? and a4 on the pin A, the loops c', c2, can be adj usted to hands of different Widths and sizes, and the strap C can be adjusted in an evident manner in the eyes a3, a5 and a6, and by means of the buckle c5, to adj ust the size of the loops c', c2, to lingers of different sizes. The outwardly turned end b of the guard strap B, and the forward side or part of the loop c2 together form a smooth surface IOO which rests against the adjacent side of the finger and prevent it being injured by the force with which it is thrust against said iinger so often in use, especially in forcing the point of the pin A into the husks, and in pulling the husks with the point end of the pin to strip them from the ear of corn.

The loops or finger receptacles c', c2, held as they are by the eyes a3, a5 and a", in a radial plane from the pin A, oblique to the flat side a. of the pin A, as shown best at Fig. 5, will cause the thumb when the husker is in place on the hand, to come squarely down upon the fiat side part a of the pin, when the fingers and thumb are closed upon the husk and pin,as in the operation of husking.

The strap D has a transverse slot CZ in one of its ends, which is seated over the eye a6 and on the shank thereof to secu re it thereto, and is cut and riveted at its midlength part, as shown, and to better iit the knuckle of the forefinger, when the strap is curved and its end cl brought back to the eye a6, as shown, to form a loop or receptacle d2 for the foretlnger. The end bof the strap B beyond the slot b2 is riveted at d2 to the strap D to hold its end d in place, and also to secure the end b of the strap B in place. Vhen the guard strap D is used, its breadth and smooth surface will prevent injury to the forefinger by the backward thrust of the pin in use, hereinbefore described, and the strap D not being conneeted'with or forming part of any of the other straps, and being the part most subject to wear, can when Worn out be readily and easily removed and a new strap D be substituted therefor.

If preferred the strap D can be omitted or left o entirely, and in that case the back ward thrust of the pin in use will be prevented from injuring the finger as hereinbefore described. When the strap D is omitted from the husker, preferably the return end c4 of the strap C should not pass through the slot b2, but exterior to the end b of the strap B, as shown at Fig. 4, for the purpose of holding such end b in place and out of the way.

If preferred the part of the strap C adjacent to the eye a3 may be otherwise secured to the pin A than as I have shown; for instance, it may be secured to that end of the pin A as shown at Fig. 2 of the drawings of my patent hereinbefore referred to, as the particular way in which that part of the strap C is secured to that end of the pin A does not enter into the spirit of my invention, so long as the manner of securing that part of the strap C to the pin A does not interfere with my construction of the strap B and manner of connecting its forward end with the strap C, which constitute features of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. Acorn husker, comprising, substantially as hereinbefore described, a pin, and a guard strap, as B, fixed thereto and turned outwardly at one end to form a guard for the nger, and a single loop for the forefinger, its ends fixed to the pin, and its body part fixed to the outwardly turned end of the guard strap B.

2. A corn husker comprising, substantially as vhereinbefore described, a pin, a guard strap, as B, having a slot b2 and holes or slots through which the eyes a3, a5, pass, and a finger loop strap C, which also passes through the eyes a3, 0.5, and holds the strap B in place on the pin, and also passes through the slot b2, for the purpose specified.

3. A corn husker comprising, substantially as hereinbefore described, a pin, a guard strap B having an outwardly turned finger guard end b with a slot b2, and a loop strap C, passed through eyes a5 and af', to form loops c', c2, and through the slot b2, and having its turned back ends adj ustably connected by a buckle, and its rear part connected with the end of the pin.

4. A corn husker, comprising, substantially as hereinbefore described, a pin, a guard strap, as B, having an outwardly turned finger guard end b', with a slot, as b2, through which a loop strap, as C, which is secured to the pin, passes and is adjustably connected at its ends.

5. A corn husker comprising, substantially as hercinbefore described, a pin, a guard strap, as B, having an outturned end b with a slot b2, a loop strap, secured to the pin to form loops or receptacles for part of the fingers, passed through the slot b2, and a separate loop, as D, fixed at one end to the pin and at its other end to the end b of the strap B.
