DOOR-STOP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 513,333, dated January 23, 1.894. Application led May 15, 1893. Serial No. 474,260. (No model.)

To all whom t 1v1/ag concern.:-

Be it known that I, HENRY C. LIPPINCOTT, a citizen of the United States, residingin the city and county of Philadelphia, Stateof Penusylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Stops, which improvement is fully set forth in the follwing specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of an improvement in door stops, as will be hereinafter set forth and pointed clit in the claims that follow the specification.

Figure l represents a perspective view of a door stop embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.

Referring to the drawings: A designates a box or frame in which is a vertically-moving follower B, from which projects the step C. Projecting from the base of the frame A is a foot D, it being seen that the step C is above the foot D, and the step and foot are adapted to be inserted between the bottom of a door and the floor of the apartment in which said door is hung. l

E designates a screw which is fitted to the follower B, and to the top of the frame A, whereby by rotation of the same, the follower may be raised or lowered as required.

The operation is as follows: The step C and foot D are inserted under a door to be secured, and the screwE is operated, whereby the step `C rises and is forced against the door, thus jamming the same, and preventing opening or closing thereof. Owing to 'the stationary foot D, which rests on the door, the frame is held in upright position and prevented from being forced outwardly and straining the follower, the screw, and the step C. This is assisted by having the sides of the step C formed with shoulders F which bear against the sides G of the frame A, thus forming a guide for said step in its motions and an abut ment from the same when the step is in operative position against the door. When the screw is rotated in reverse direction, the step C is lowered and closes upon the foot D, whereby the device may be readily removed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A door stop consisting of a trame with a foot projecting beyond the body of the same, avertically-movable follower in said frame, an operating screw for said follower, and a step connected with said follower and guided ou said frame, said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A door stop having a frame with a projecting foot, and a follower movable in said frame and having a projecting step above said foot, said foot being guided on said frame, said parts being combined substantially as described.

3. A frame with a follower and screw, the latter engaging with said follower and frame, and a step projecting from said follower, the sides of said step having shoulders which abut against the said frame, said parts being combined substantially as described.
