Description

(No Model.) Q
J. G. HALL.
GULTIVATOR TRIP DEVICE.
No. 513,043. Patented Jan. 16, 1894. f
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES G. HALL, OF KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO MAGGIE M. HALL, OF MONTICELLO, INDIANA:
CU LTIVA'F'OR TRIP DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 513,043, dated January 16, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES G. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kankakee city, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivator Trip Devices; and I do declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make an improvement upon my patent granted November 29, 1892, and numbered 487,218.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings and then pointed outin the claims.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective View of a cultivator standard provided with my improved tripping device; Fig. 2 a vertical longitudinal section thereof, and Fig. 3 a detail view of the pivoted and spring-actuated latch which. looks the plow-holder in alignment with the standard.
In the drawings, A represents the standard of a cultivator, and B the plow or shovel holder which is bifurcated at the upper end. The lower end of the standard does not extend to the bottom of the slot between the prongs b b of the holder, but leaves a space in which is fulcrumed the lever O thereunder. The upper end of the holderB is pivoted near its top to the standard A and has a stop or cross-piece b which prevents the holder from going farther forward than in line with the standard.
In a cavity of the lever O is pivoted the latch D at the front end and this is pressed upwardly by a spring E, the latch D having a shoulder d which catches against the shoulder Application filediluly 27,1893- Serial No. 481,585. (No model.)
having at bottom a cross-pin g to prevent the lever from coming out of the tube.
9 is a cross-pinin the upper part of the tube against which presses the upper end of the spring.
H is an auxiliary plate spring which is fastened at the upper end to the standard, while near the middle thereof is secured the upper end of the tube G. This spring is slotted at h to allow a free up and down play to the lever O. Bycombining the plate spring H in this way with the trip device, it is only necessary to raise the cultivator or plow after a trip and the spring I-I automatically locks the standard A and holder B, thus saving much time and labor.
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-- 1.'In a cultivator trip device, the plate I-I having springE arranged behind the pivoted plowholder B lever 0, spring F and latch D, the said plate being attached at its upper end to the back of the standard as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a cultivator trip device, the standard A, jointed plowholder B, lever G, latch D, the
