NUT CRACKER AND PICK.--
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,818, dated January 16, 1894.
Application filed April 22,1893. Serial No.471,380. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it'known that I, ROBERT C. HALL, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of 'Iitusville, county of Crawford, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut Crackers and Picks, of which the following is a specification, .the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which to I have contemplated applying that principle so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
The annexed drawings and the following description set forth in detail one mechanical form embodyingthe invention; such de- [5 tail construction being but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.
In said annexed drawingsFigure I represents a perspective View of my improved nut 2o cracker and pick; Fig. II, a plan View of the same, and Fig. III, a plan view of the device, illustrating its handles as swung around opposite to the direction illustrated in Figs. I and II, and thus illustrating the device as ready for convenient storing away or transportation.
The jaws A, and handles A, are of the construction found in the commonly used nut crackers, and are pivoted in the usual man- 0 ner to the fulcrum piece B, the general construction of which is like the ordinary nut cracker. Instead, however, of having the ordinary tongue at one end,-opposite to the smaller tongue b,-a nut pick, B, is formed at that end of the fulcrum piece, so that the handles of the nut cracker proper, may be held as a handle for the pick.
The manner of using the nut cracker is exactly-likethe ordinary nut cracker and, whenever the nut cracker and pick is not used, the handles may be reversed or swung around to have the pick projecting between them, whereby the pick is protected from either causing or receiving damage.
Other modes of appplying the principle of my invention may be employed forthe mode herein explained. Change may therefore be made as regards the mechanism thus disclosed, provided the principles of construction set forth respectively in the following claims are employed.
I therefore particularly point out and dis tinctly claim as my invention- 1. A nut cracker and pick having jaws and handles, and a fulcrum piece to which the jaws and handles are pivoted at the ends of the j aws,one of said members having a pick projecting beyond the pivot joint when the jaws and handles are turned in one direction, and folding between the jaws and handles when the latter are reversed, substantially as set forth.
2. A nut cracker and pick consisting of jaws and handles and a fulcrum piece to which said jaws and handles are pivoted,-said fulcrum piece having a pick projecting from one end, substantially asset forth.
