SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 512,589, dated January 9, 1894.

To all whom it may concern..-

Beitknown that L'lnonns B.THORNDYKE, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Dancing Toy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved dancing toy, which is simple and durable in construction, and arranged in such a manner that a figure or figures will keep regular step, upon properly actuating the dancing platform.

The invention consists of a dancing platform supported on a series of especially arranged springs attached to the base of the toy.

The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the improvement arranged for a single figure. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the improvement arranged for two figures.

The improved dancing toy is provided with a suitably contructed base A having legs for conveniently supporting the base on a table or other support.

At or near the middle of the base A is arranged an opening A, into which fits loosely the dancing platform B-covered by a fabric C, which also extends over, and is secured to the top and sides of the base, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 3. The platform B is supported on a series of springs as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, four springs D connecting the corners of the platform at the under side with the base, the said springs being arranged longitudinally as shown. Two longitudinal springs E, E, connect the base at or near the sides, with abracket F seen red to the under side of the platform 13, at or near the middle. By this arrangement of supporting the platform, the latter is held normally slightly above the top surface of the base A, the upward movement of the platform being Serial No. 487,688. (No model.)

limited by the cover C. It will also be seen that the platform 13, on account of its peculiar support, can be pressed on at any point, and when released, regains its normal horizontal position. The top of the platform B is en gaged by the feet of the dancing figure G, preferably having jointed members, as indicated in the drawings, the figure being hung on a link H, loosely connected with and supported from the hook end of a red I, preferably made of spring wire, and secured to the base A, as plainly shown in Fig. 1. New, by rapping with the fingers on the platform 13, the lightly suspended figure G, will dance on the platform, the feet making regular step movements in time with the uniform rapping given to the platform, according to any desired tune.

As illustrated in Fig. 3, two figures G and G are arranged opposite each other, and suspended from a bar ll, supported at its middle on the lower end of a spring J, connected at its upper end by a swivel K, with the supporting rod 1, attached to the base A. The platform in this case is arranged the same as the one shown in Fig. l and described above.

By employing the swivel K, the bar ll supporting the figures, can swing around, so that besides the regular dancing of the figures, they can turn around, the swivel permitting such movement of the bar and the figures.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A dancing toy, provided with a dancing platform and two sets of springs for supporting said platform, one set of springs being connected with the corners of the platform, and a bracket secured to the platform at or near the middle and connected with the other set of springs, substantially as shown and described.

2. A dancing toy, comprising a base having an opening, a platform arranged in the said opening, springs for supporting the said platform in the said opening, a spring wire rod attached to the base, and a dancing figure loosely suspended from the said rod, and resting with its feet on the said platform, substantially as shown and described.
