AUTOMATlC BAN D-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,841, dated January 2, 1894.
Application filedAugust Z, 1893- Serial No. 482,212. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BRYAN HEN- DRICKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Band-Ontters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in self band cutters of that class which is especially adapted to cut the bands around bundles of wheat and oats, and it has for its object the construction of such a device which shall be of cheap construction and efficient in its purpose.
The invention consists in the novel construction, and arrangement of parts, such as will be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts, Figure l, is a front view of the cutter facing the separator. Fig. 2, is an end view showing the gearing. Fig. 3, is a vertical sectional view showing the arrangement of spikes and method of applying the shield.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the frame of the machine to and by which the several component parts are secured and carried. To the side post of this frame is attached the shaft boxes 0, in which the main shaft J revolves; attached to the shaft J, is the spike wheel K provided with spikes L aroundits periphery which feeds the bundles of wheat under the knives.
M is the knife wheel and is provided with the knives N to out the bands.
S, is the frame braces to strengthen the frame.
F, is a flanged pulley which is driven bya belt from the separator, and is fastened to the shaft G, which revolves in the journal box H.
The shaft J has the bevel gear I which is actuated by the gear T on shaft G.
P, designates the shield braces to which the shield plate R is attached. The vertical end of the brace is made of round iron and is attached to the frame A with jam nuts; the brace is flattened where it winds one turn around the shaft J. The brace then curves upward and is bolted at its opposite end as shown at A.
B, designates the table Which can be adjusted to any suitable height by means of the plates 0 sliding in the guide bracket E, and held by the set screw d.
D, designates the incline slide for the wheat to slide on, and is fastened at the rear to the angle iron e, and the bottom rests on the table B.
Having described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
In a bandcutter and feederfor agricultural purposes, comprising the frame A, the shaft J supported thereon by the boxes 0, the spiked pulleys K provided with the spikes L, the pulleys M, provided with the knives N, the said pulleys coveredin front with the shield R, secu red to the braces P, the shaft G, mounted on the box H, and provided with the main driving pulley F, the gear wheel T attached to said shaft and engaged in the gear wheel I, to actuate the shaft J, all to co-operate as shown, the adjustable table B, secured to the frame A, the plates 0 to engage in thebrackets E, to adjust said table, the incline D extending from the said table to the rear of the frame A, and-attached to the angle iron 6, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL BRYAN HENDRICKS.
