No. 511,443. Patented Dec; 26,1893.
and particularly pointed out in the claim.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS MARTENSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
SAW-C LAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,443, dated December 26, 1893.
Application filed August 29,1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS MARTENSON, of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sawoclamps designed to be used for holding saws while they are being sharpened, and the invention consists generally in the construction and combination hereinafter described In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved clamp. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line wx of Fig. 1.
In the drawings 3 represents a standard having at its upper end a clamping arm or edge 2, and adapted to be secured upon a bench or other support by the integral clamp frame 4 and the binding screw 5 arranged therein. The standard is provided with the arm 7 having wide vertical and parallel sides 20, and thelargercross piece 21. To prevent the tilting or loosening of the standard upon the support I extend upon each side the lugs or projections 17 which afford a broad bearing upon the edge of the bench. The movable part of the clamp consists in the yoke 11 provided with the clamping bar 9, and the opening 7 has parallel sides adapted to fit closely upon the sides 20 of the arm 7. The yoke is provided with the tail piece 13 projecting downward and carrying the set screw 15', which extends through the thread ed opening therein, and the end of which is swiveled in the small block 22. This block is threaded and adapted to be screwed in or out in the threaded opening 23 arranged in the face of the standard and whereby the set screw 15 may be laterally adjusted. A pivot pin 15 Serial No. 444,366. (No model.)
extends through the upper part of the yoke and through the part 21 of the arm 7, to pivot provide asaw clamp which is made upof four simple parts, easily molded, furnished and put together, and costing less than any saw clamp with which I am acquainted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with the standard 3 having a clamping edge 2, the lateral projections 17 to engage the support, a threaded opening 23, and means for securing the standard, of the arm 7 arranged upon said standard and having the parallel and wide sides 20, of the yoke having parallel inner sides to closely engage said sides 20,. of the arm, said yoke provided with the cross piece 9 and a tail piece 13, a pivot pin 15 extending through said yoke and through the upper part of said arm, aset screw 15 for locking said yoke, and an externally threaded block 22 in which the end of the set screw is swiveled, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of August, 1892.
LOUIS MARTENsoN.
