GALLEY-SUPPORT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,235, dated December 19,1893.

Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. Donn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Camden, New .lersey,have invented an Improved Galley-Support, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of an improved galley support intended to be mounted on the front of a type case, and adapted to be swung underneath the case when not in use.

My invention is designed for use in close quarters where it would not be possible to have a table especially for the purpose of holding galleys.

In the accompanying drawings:-Figure 1, is a side view of one of the brackets constituting the main feature of my invention, said bracket being in position for use, and a portion of the type case being also shown in section. Fig. 2, is a side view of the device on a smaller scale, showing itin the position assumed when not in use. Fig. 3, is a front view of the support, showing in dotted lines a galley resting upon it. Fig. at, is a detail view of an attachment whereby the support is adapted for application to type cases having metal frames; and Fig. 5, is a view of a modification of a part of my device.

Each galley is intended to be supported upon a number of brackets, as shown in Fig. 3, butas each of thesebrackets and the means whereby it may be swung underneath the case, are the same, a description of one of them will be sufficient.

A is the bracket on which the galley rests, this bracket being provided with an enlarged portion A which is shaped so as to fit over the front edge of the type case B. The bracket A has a circular stud a, projecting below the enlarged port-ion A and formed integral with it; and this stud terminates in a guiding pin a, provided at its lower end with a button 3, for a purpose hereinafter set forth.

On the inside of the brace h of the type case frame is secured a bracket (Z, which supports the swinging link D, the latter being connected at its lower end to a link G having an enlarged head a which provides a socket for the stud a, of the bracket A. The pin a of the stud to also passes through this eularged head 0, and the button 0. on the lower end of said pin prevents it'from being withdrawn when the bracket is swung under the type case, as shown in Fig. 3. -A1ug a 0n the stud a, fits in a suitable groove in the socket of the head a of the link 0 and prevents the stud from turning.

When it is desired to swing the galley'support underneath the case, the bracket A is lifted until its projection a is drawn out of the socket in the head of the link 0 and being then freed from engagement with the front of the type case is dropped down and swung under the case until it can be suspended from a suitable hook d as shown in Fig. 2, the pin at the'upper end of the link D, constituting the pivot on which the bracket swings. The bracket A may be hung in a position the reverse of that shown in Fig. 2, as said bracket is free to turn in the socket of the link 0 when not in use.

Type case frames are sometimes made of iron piping, and the bracket for the link D as constructed for wooden frames would not be available for use on such iron frames. For applying my improved galley support to said iron frames, however, I provide a clamp E (shown by dotted lines in Fig.1,and in detail in Fig. 4), this clamp having a removable section E' so that it may be fittedover the pipe and secured thereto by a thumb screw a; this clamp has a projection e to which the link D is hung. The clamp may be made with aserrated or notched inner surface for the purpose of more securely gripping the pipe.

Some of the essential features of my invention may be embodied in a support having but one link for each bracket; for instance the link 0 may be hung to a lug on the under side of the brace b of the type case frame, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.

It is obvious that instead of having the bracket A socketed in the head of the link 0 these two portions could be formed integral with each other; and the bracket (1 which supports the structure when not in use, could be a slotted one, as (1 shown in Fig. 5, so that the link D would have a sliding fulcrum, to allow of removing the bracket from its position when in use. When for instance a single link as G, is used, whether formed integral with the bracket A or not, it may also be hung to a slotted bracket, the same depending from the under side of the front brace of the type case frame.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Paten l. The combination in a galley support for type case frames, of the galley bracket projecting inward over the type case and adapted to engage with the front bar of the same, with a link connection hung to the type case frame in such relation to the latter that said bracket and link connection may be swung under the type case when not in use, substantially as shown and described.

2. The combination in a galley support for type case frames, of a galley bracket supported upon said case, and a pair of jointed links one connected to the bracket, and the other hung to the inner side of the frame whereby the structure may be swung under the type case when not in use, substantially as shown and described.

3. The combination in a galley support for type case frames, of the galley bracket supported upon the frame and a pair of jointed links, one connected to the bracket and the other to the inner side of the front bar of the frame, one of said connections having sufficient play to permit the bracket to engage with or be released from the supporting bar of the frame, substantially as shown and described.

The combinationin a galley support for type case frames, of the galley bracket constructed to engage with a portion of the frame and having a projecting guide pin, With a link support hung to the frame and having an opening for the reception of the guide pin on the bracket, substantially as set forth.

The combination in a support for galleys, of the galley bracket, a clamp for engaginga bar of the frame, and the link support connected at one end to the bracket and hnngat the other end to said clamp, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

6. The combination in asupport for galleys, of the galley bracket, a clamp having a notched 0r serrated inner surface, and adapted for the reception of a bar of the frame, and a link support connected at one end to the bracket and hung at the opposite end to said clamp, substantially as specified.
