SEALED PACKAGE.
No. 510,621. Patented Dec. 12, 1789s.
wwwwwwwwwwww UNITED ,STATES PATENT QFFICE.
BENJAMIN VAN DERVEER, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
SEALED PACKAGE.
v SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,621, dated December 12, 1893.
Application iiled September 24, 1892. Serial No. 446.855. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, BENJAMIN B. VAN DER- VEER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Package-Seals, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to means and devices employed for preventing the tampering with the contents of packages, and has for its object the provision of a sealing device simple and cheap to make, easy to apply to a package, and which shall effectually prevent the malicious or unwarranted examination, or tampering with the contents of the package wherewith my invention is employed.
To attain the desired end, myjinvention consists essentiallyin a center provided with flexible non elastic arms, arranged to be bent around the package to be sealed, the extremities of the arms being secured together by means of adhesive material, thus providing a sealed package wherein the contents can only be reached by breaking the seal or tearing one or more of the flexible arms; all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.`
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the sealing device. Fig. 2 is a top plan View of a box or package to which my seal has been applied. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view thereof, and Fig. 4L is an end view of such a package.
Like numerals of reference, wherever they occur, indicate'corresponding parts in all the figures. v
In putting up certain articles, such for instance as fine candy, dac., it is important to so seal the package or box that the contents cannot be tampered with after it leaves the hands of the manufacturer,unti1 it reaches the actual consumer or purchaser. Various devices have been employed for obtaining this end, but none of them have been found effective and satisfactory, as they wereof such a nature as to permit the removal of the package without breaking the seal, after which the package could be returned to the seal or sealed jacket, and the purchaser could not be certain that the contents of a package or box had not been meddled with. By my invention such meddling is entirely prevented.
In the drawings, 1 is a box or package of candy, or other article it is desired to protect. The box may be inclosed in a paper wrapper, or not, as preferred.
2 is a center of paper, or its equivalent, preferably of such a shape or size as to be printed upon, but this is not essential.
3 are radial arms arranged to pass around the sides and ends of the package 1, and be united together by means of any adhesive material, as illustrated in Fig. 3.
In order to add to the tinish of the sealed package, a'wafer 4 may be applied over the .meeting ends of the arms 3. It will thus be seen that when arranged as above described, a securely sealed package is the result.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a box or package of the character herein specified, of a sealing device consisting of paper arms radiating from a common center, meeting around said box or YBENJAMIN B. VAN DERVEER.
