DIE OR MOLD- FOR COVERING BRlDLE-BITS- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,293, dated November 21, 1893.

Application filed August 17, 1898- To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE BROOKINGTON, a subject of the Queen of England, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dies or Molds for Covering Bridle-Bits; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable IO others skilled in the art to which it apportains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to facilitate the covering of the mouth pieces of bridle bits with rubber, after the cheek pieces and the core of the mouth piece have been assembled.

The invention consists in the improved dies or molds and the arrangements and combinations of parts, all substantially as will be hereinafter set forth and finally embraced in the claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in each of the views, Figured is a plan of the mold showing the bridle bit in place therein. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken on line :0, Fig.1. Fig. 3 is a similar section showing a modification of construction, and Fig. 4 is an interior plan of one of the sections and showing the transverse and longitudinal recesses to receive the check pieces and mouth piece of the bit.

In said drawings, a, a, are the cheek pieces of the bit, having rein rings Z7, b, and bars or pins 12, b, to receive the metal or other core, a, of the mouth piece.

(Z, d, are the die sections. These are interiorly and longitudinally concavous, to form the mouth piece recesses e, e, the walls of Serial No. 83,314. (N0 model.)

which are properly formed to give shape to the rubber or similar covering, 0', of the core 0. Near the opposite ends of the dies, the sec- 4 5 tions are transversely grooved or recessed, as

at f,f, to receive the pins, 6', or other metal parts lying on opposite sides of the mouth piece heads. On the outer sides, lying opposite to those having the grooves or recesses, the sections are made fiat or are otherwise adapted to receive the pressure of the press,

as at g, and back from the opposite ends, one

of said outer sides is transversely grooved or recessed, as at h, to receive the rein'rings, b, 5 5 and hold them out of the way of the press so that there will be no interference of parts. The mouth piece recesses are preferably grooved, ribbed or otherwise formed to produce corrugations, ribs or similar protuber- 0o ances upon the mouth piece covering.

Instead of having two transverse grooves or recesses h, as in Figs. 1 and 2, I may remove the entire center part, 71., and thus have but one, but to secure the greatest strength, I prefer the transverse and curved grooves more nearly conforming to the shape of the rein rings, as will be understood.

What I claim as new is- The improved die for covering the core of a bridle bit mouth piece, which consists of sections (1, 61', formed with interior longitudinal mouth piece recesses and near the ends thereof with transverse pin recesses f, and on the outer sides with cheek-piece rein-rin g recesses 5 h, substantially as set forth.
