JOHN HARRISON RHOADs, OF NOKOMIs,ILLINOIs.
HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,24*?, dated November 21, 1893.
Application filed May 29, 1891. Serial No.394,515 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Beit known thatLJOHNHARRIsON RHOADs, a citizen of the United States, residing at N okomis, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Harness, of which the following is a specification'.
My invention relates to an improvementin harness, the object being to provide an im.
"through the back strap loop.
The numeral 1 indicates the back strap to which is secured a metallic loop 2 consisting of a base 3 riveted to the strap and a plate4 bent upon itself at each end and secured tO the base 3. The outer. edges 5 of the plate 4 are bent upon themselves to embrace the strap 6, as shown.
7 indicates an anti-friction roller journaled upona headed pin 8, extending transversely` through the lower end of the plate 4 andheld `bya nut 9.
rigidly secured to a metallic loop loosely arranged upon the trace. The rear end of the keeper 13 is provided with a ring or loop 14 to which the hold back strap is to be attached. The keeper 13 rests on the outer side 'of the metallic back strap loop 2, and the lower edge of the trace rests upon the roller '7. This construction and arrangement of parts prevent undue movement of lthe back band or saddle and enables the team to hold `back easier than with the usual trace connection.
Having fullydescribed my invention, what I claim is The combination of the back-strap 1, the metallic loop r.2, consisting Of the base-plate 3 secured to the back-strap and the plate 4 bent upon itself at each end and secured to the base-plate and havingits edges bent over and down as shown; a roller journaled in the lower end Of the plates, the strap 6 held in the plate 4, the trace 10 arranged between the plates to bear on the roller, and the keeper 13 disposed over and across the strap 6 and having one end secured to the trace buckle and the other end rigidly secured to a metallic loop loosely arranged on the trace, a loop 14 in the end of the keeper and the holdback strap attached to said loop 14, substantially as described and shown.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN HARRISON RHOADs.
