Be it known that I, WILLIAM OLANOY, a citizen of the United States, and'a resident of Anaconda, in the county of Deer Lodge and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Screening and Concentrating Ores; and I do hereby declare that the following is 'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in machines principally designed for screening and concentrating ores, although it may be employed for all purposes which screening machines are generally used for, and is intended as an improvement upon the invention for which Letters Patent-were granted to me on May 31, 1892, No. 476,035.
The object of theinvention is to provide an improved screening apparatusin which twigs, leaves and other rubbish which are usually presentwith the ore may be separated therefrom and removed from the machine in an expeditious and efficient manner, thereby preventing the same from being carried over to the settling tanks.

This drum comprises the cast iron heads 6, with which the rims 4 are made integral and annular flanges 7, which form guides fortheeccentricpinions. Inthe interior of the drum at one side is a segmental shield 13, consisting of a curved metal plate, the upper end of which terminates in close proximlty to the slot in the trough. Located in the drum is afeed flume 14, consisting of a horizontal board or plate extending from end to end thereof, and provided With a diagonal plate 15, of wire gauze or perforatedmetal of coarse mesh.

This extension is connected with a fan casmg 25, having a fan 27, and its outer end 1s ournaled in a slot in the upper end of an uprlght or standard 28. The shaft 32 is connected with a shaft 38, journaled in the vertically movable bearing 17 of one of the brackets 16 by means of a spring 39. By means of the spring connection between shafts 32 and 38, the latter can move vertically without correspondingly moving shaft 32.
The bearing 17 at the opposite end of the machine carries a shaft provided with a pinion 42, which meshes with the cogs on the drum at that end.
The operation will be readily understood. The material to be screened is fed to the flume, and the twigs, leaves and other rubbish will be thrown toward the segmental 1 screen and will be caught by the ribs of the drum and carried around and delivered into the trough at the upper end of the machine.
