ALBUM- STAND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,224, dated November 7, 1893.

Be it known that I, ISAAC KAUFMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing inthe city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and.

useful Improvements in Album-Stands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference toan improved stand for photograph albums by which the same can be adjusted in inclined or horizontal position, so as to permit the convenient inspection of the same.

The invention consists of a stand for photograph albums, composed of a base, a photograph album hinged to the upright portion on the base, and a spring-actuated stay that is pivoted to the base and provided at its upper end with a pivoted handle that is guided in eyes at the under side of the album,'sai(i handle being provided with means for looking the album in horizontal position on the support or in inclined position, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent perspective views of my improved album-stand, showing the same respectively in inclined and horizontal position. Figs. 3 and 4 are side elevations respectively of Figs. 1 and 2, drawn on a larger scale, and Fig. 5 is a sectional plan view of the device for holding the album in inclined or horizontal position.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a stand which is formed of a horizontal base portion a and a vertical portion a.

B represents a photograph or other album, the bottom part of which is hinged to the upper end of the vertical portion 0., as shown clearly in Fig. 4.

The album B is preferably of the same material as the base of the stand so that an orstay 0 which is preferably made of sheetmetal of suitable strength, and which is connected by a helical spring 0 with the upright portion a of the frame A. To the upper end of the stay 0 is pivoted a handle D, which is made of wire and which is preferably bent into U-shape and which is guided in eyes at or other suitable devices attached to the under side or bottom of the album B. The outer end of the handle D is bent so as to fit quite closely to theedge of the album when the same is supported in inclined position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, in which position the stay assumes an inclined position from the base toward the upright portion a.

When it is desired to support the album in horizontal position or nearly so, the same is lifted against the tension of the spring 0 of the stay 0, which is accomplished by pulling the handle D in the forward direction through the eyes until the bent or nicked portion 6 of the handle arrives in front of the front guide eyes (1, as shown in Fig. 4, in which position the album is supported on the upright portion a and the stay 0, and held securely by the locking action ofthe handle so that the album can be opened and thepictures in the same inspected. When it is desired to return the album to theinclined position, the handle D is pushed in upward direction,so that the nick in the same clears the eye, whereupon, by the action of the spring, the album and its supporting stay are immediately returned into position, as shown in Fig. 3.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.
