UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER KAMPHAUS, OF WALD, GERMANY.
PRUNIN'G IMPLEMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,022,'dated November '7, 1893.
Application filed December 21, 1892. Serial No. 455,892. (No model.)
To 60% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER KAMPHAUS, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Wald, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scissors and'Shears, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in scissors and shears in which one shear blade, While cutting, is drawn along the other blade to increase the effect of the cutting action.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front View of my improved scissors or shears showing them closed; Fig. 2 an end View thereof; Fig. 3 a front View showing them open; Fig. 4 a face view of blade 8; Fig. 5 a face view of blade 8, and Fig. 6 a face view of end of handle 3 The letter 8, represents one of the shear blades pivoted by pin 1), to handle 8 This handle is by pivot b, secured to the second handle g, that carries the other or fixed shear blade 3'. The blade 5, is provided with a toothed segment 2', that engages a toothed segment z, fast on handle g. If the handles are opened, the segment 2, will revolve segment 2, to open blade 8, which will make about double the motion of handle 8 While opening, the blade 8, will move more quickly than the blade 8, and will be drawn downward along such blade to produce a'drawing out between the blades which considerably increases the efficiency of the shears.
' To obtain the largest amount of this drawing cut, the pivot I), should be placed transversely in line with pivot 29', and not above or below the same. If the scissors are closed, the pivot b, will move downward (dotted line Fig. 3) to draw the blade 5, downward and along blade 8. This drawing out between the blades takes place continually up to the time the blades close upon each other, so that a drawing action accompanies the cutting action from the beginning to the end of the motion.
What I claim is- The combination of a handle 8 which has a pair of pivots, with an independently movable blade turning on one of the pivots, a connected blade and handle turning on the other pivot, and with a pair of intergearing toothed segments, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PETER KAMPHAUS.
