Description

(No M5552!) Y T. P. PAXSVON. OVERSHOE.
No. 505,855. Patented oct. s, 15893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE P. PAXSON, OF CANTON, OHIO.
kOVERSHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,885, dated October 3, 1893.
Application filed February 6, 1893. Serial No. l161.125. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEODORE P. PAXsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Overshoes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in rubber overshoes, the object of which is to provide against the heel of boot or shoe over which the rubber shoe is worn, cutting through the heel of the over-shoe.
Figure l, is a view in perspective of an over-shoe illustrating my invention, with a part of heel portion removed. Fig. 2, is a side View partly sectional showing the heel of the shoe in the over-shoe, and Fig. 3, is a similar view showing the rear portion ot' the heel of the over-shoe, as seen when the heel of persons wearing it, strikes the ground.
To carry out or secure the object sought I have as will be seen by referring to the drawings provided in the rear portion of the heel Fig. 1. This recess may be formed of a slight increase of the thickness of bottom portion of the heel as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or by the removal of the inside rear portion of the heel. By this form of construction, the sharp corner of the leather heel B, with its nails, will not come in contact with the rubber that forms the inclosing portion of the rubber heel, and for that reason will not be cut through by the stroke of ythe heel when Walking, the rearlower portion C about the recess A, forming a spring `or yielding portion, as shown at O, Fig. 3.
Having thus described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A rubber shoe having in the base of its heel on its inner surface a narrow semi-circular recess immediately adjacent to the rear wall of the he'el, substantially as described for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set myhand this 1st day of February, A. D. 1893.
THEODORE P. PAXSON.
