SEWER-TRAP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,302, dated September 19, 1893.

Application filed April 26, 1893- Serial No. 471,883. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, PETER STANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of St. Clair, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sewer-Traps, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing.

Myinvention consists of a sewer trap formed of a pipe with an inverted bell, the latter opening into the sewer from below, whereby its mouth dips into the fluid or sewage, and is accordingly sealed.

It also consists of novel means for sustaining the bell, as will be hereinafter set forth.

The figure represents a vertical section of a sewer trap embodying my invention.

Referring to the drawing: A designates a sewer, in the side wall of which, near the bottom thereof, is an opening B, which receives a sewer pipe 0. On the end of said pipe, within the sewer, is an inverted bell D, which dips into the fluid or sewage so that the mouth or dischage end of said bell is sealed and the gas is prevented from entering the bell, and consequently the pipe 0.

In order to support the bell and sustain the same against pressure of the flowing sewage or superimposed weight, the inner wall of the sewer is formed with a recess E, which extends downward from the opening B, and receives a portion of the inner wall of the bell. The lower wall F of said recess has the lower edge of said portion of the wall of the bell resting thereupon, whereby the bell is prevented from dropping or being forced downwardly or laterally.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A sewer having the opening B in its side, and the recess E in its inner face below and communicating with said opening, in combination with the pipe 0 fitting in said opening, and having on its end within the said sewer, the inverted bell D, the latter having a portion thereof in said recess and supported on the lower wall thereof, substantially as described.

Affidavit having been filed showing that the name of the patentee in Letters Patent N 0. 505,302, granted September 19, 1893, for an improvement in Sewer-Traps should have been written and printed Peter Stauder instead of Peter stander, it is hereby certified that the proper correction has been made in the files and records pertaining to the case in the Patent Office, and should be read in the Letters Patent that the same may conform thereto.
