GAS-HEATER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,382, dated September 5, 1893.

Application tiled January 6, 1892. Serial No. 417,222. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK P. ZIEGLER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. y

My invention relates to gas heaters and is specially adapted for use by candy makers to aid them in properly heating the candy as they knead it into the desired shape, and will be fully described hereinafter.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspectiveview of my device with part of it broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section on line l, l, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail.`

A is the body of the heater which is a frame preferably made substantially of the form shown, having a front face A to which is secured asbestus batting B. Just beneath the lower edge of the batting and protected by a flange a of the body of the heater are three perforated pipes b, c, d, which are joined together'as shown, but are closed at their ends so that neither communicates with the other; and each of these pipe sections is connected by other pipes e, f, g,respectively, with rear pipes h, ,j, and these in turn with the main pipe C, and each of the pipes h, ,j, is provided with a cock lo. Leading out from the main pipe O is another pipe D which is connected to a jointed burner E which is adapted tobe moved along the face of the asbestus and above the perforations in the pipe sections b, c, d, so that by means of this pipe When the gas is turned on to either of the pipe sections,or all of them,it may be lighted by the'burner E.

My device does away with the extreme and at times unnecessary heat of a coke or coal burner, as by the division of the burner pipe I am enabled to close off the heat at any point or to regulate it at any point, and thus have the heat only where it is necessary.

Fig. 3 shows a form of connection between the pipes e,f, g, and the pipes h, dj, which is on the injection principle, that is, a space m is left between the two pipes for the air to enter through to form a combustible mixture with the gas. l

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a gas heater the combination with a frame or body and a batting of asbestus secured to a vertical face thereof, of a divided burner pipe situated close to the lower portion of the batting, a main gas pipe secured to the body, and connections between each division of the burner pipe and the main gas pipe, substantially as described.
