BOLT-CUTTER.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,395, dated October 10, 1865.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, REUBEN SISOHO, of luscola, in the county ot' Douglass and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Cutting Oft Bolts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

ln the drawings, A represents a metallic frame, which is provided with an opening through it, and in which opening are placed two bits, B and C. The bit C is made stationary, while bit B is made to move up and down in the opening.

D represents a rod, which is provided with a screw-thread, as shown. The screw upon rod D passes into a female screw in the upper end of frame A.

E represents a bar, which connects the rod D to the upper bit, B, said bar having a collar upon its upper end, through which the rod D passes. The rod D is also provided with a collar, a' x, below which the collar on the har E cannot work. In screwing the rod D down its upper end rests upon the upper end of bit B and presses it down upon the nut to be cut between it and hit O, and when the said rod is turned in an opposite direction, and thus unscrewed, the harE raises the said bit B for action again. The form of the two bits is shown in dotted line, Fig. 2.

It is readily seen that any bolt may be cut by placing it between the two bits and pressing` the'upper bit down by means ofthe screw.

What I claim is- The employment ofthe frame A, bits B and O, rod D, and bar E, arranged and used as and for the purpose herein specitied.
