SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 503,216, dated August 15, 1893.
Application filed October '7, 1892. Serial No.448,118. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER K. PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beloit, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a rack which may be placed around a stove pipe, the ends of which are clamped together, holding the rack firmly in position and a series of arms which are held in a horizontal position for use and in a vertical position when not in use.
The figure represented in the drawing is an isometrical view of my improved stove pipe rack in which the stove pipe is shown in dotted lines.
My improved rack consists of two castings, having a base l to conform to the curvature of the stove pipe, provided with lugs 2 and 3 and an outwardly extending flange 4, provided with a central notch 5. The lug2 is centrally perforated and the outer edge of the lug 3 is notched. A section of sheet iron G is riveted to the end of each of the castings. The rack is placed around the stove pipe and a curved rod 7 is passed through the perforation of one of the lugs 2, seated in the notches of the lug 3 and passing through the perforation ofthe remaining lug 2, its outer end being screw threaded and receiving a thumb nut 8, by means of which the castings are drawn toward veach other, firmly clamping the rack around the stove pipe.
The rod 7 is placed in position and a number of arms 9, made Of wire and having the ends of the wire extending inward from the rod, are placed upon the rod and hangin a vertical direction. The arms may be held in a horizontal position by allowing the ends of the wire composing them to pass downward through the notches 5 until the ends are below the flange 4, when the arms may be moved upon the curved rod until the ends of the wire rest on the under side of the flange. By this construction of the rack it is readily placed in position upon the stove pipe and the arms when not in use will stand in a vertical line.
In the drawing I have only shown two arms but it is evident any number may be employed within the capacity of the rack.
I claim as my invention- A stove pipe rack consisting of two base pieces, having outwardly extending lugs and a flange with a vertical notch, these base pieces connected by a band of flexible material and a rod connecting the base pieces upon which are supported arms and a thumb nut having a screw thread connection with one end of the rod.
