TOY HOOP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,191, dated August 15, 1893.

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILERID W. BLACK- sHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Toy Hoops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,`

and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved toy hoop, about which figures of various kinds such as dolls, horses, shes, &c., are made to perform curious and amusing antics.

The object of my invention is the entertainment and amusement of the children. I attain these objects by means ofthe toy illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-'-` Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved toy hoop in position for operation. Fig. 2 represents a central sectional view transverse to the nplane of the hoop and adjacent to figure operating mechanism. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view upon an enlarged scale. Figs. 4 and 5 represent modifications of the cam plates or forms.

Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

The handle Ais suitably connected by any suitable fastening as pin a, to a short shaft B, which has a collar B about the said shaft between handle A and hub C, which hub is mounted to turn freely upon the shaft. The hub C is preferably secured from lateral movement by washer b and pin b.

Any desirable number of spokes as D may be attached to hub C for the purpose of supporting the Yhoop or rim E.

Projecting from the hub C adjacent to and substantially parallel with the spokes D, are the pins F. Each slide G is mounted upon one of pins F and spokes D and is adapted to slide freely upon the same. Pins g, preferably made integral with said slides, project laterally therefrom into the groove formed by the anges h, h, of the cam-plate I-I, which is secured to the handle A in any suitable manner as by screws o. a.

F at f are the bent arms or levers I, upon the outer ends or extremities of which are mounted figures or images of any desirable shape or appearance. Dolls K are shown in the draw- The arms or levers I are loosely connected. at their inner ends to the slides Gby means of links or arms L.

In Figs. land 5 I have shown modified forms of the cam-plate designated by the reference characters I-l and H respectively, which may be used to give dierent movements t0 the images or figures. I intend this toy hoop to be pushed or drawn along by the handle A, as is desired.

The use of any desired shaped cam, as H H will give the figures a jumping or sliding motion in the revolution of the hoop causing them to perform amusing antics while on the upper part of the wheel yet escape the floor or ground when at the lower part of the hoop.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

l. In a toyhoop the combination with the pivoted arms provided on their outer ends with figures and having pivotal connection with the rotating hoop, of a non rotatable cam plate, and a link connection between the cam plate and the inner ends of the pivoted arms, and a handle attached to said cam plate at the hub of the hoop, all substantially as described and set forth.

2. In a toy hoop the combination with the pivoted arms provided with gures or images on their outer ends and pivoted to the pins F between their ends, of a non 'rotatable cam plate, connections between the inner ends of the arms and the cam plate, and a handle attached to said cam plate at the hub of the hoop,'as described and set forth.

3.' In a toy hoop the combination with pivoted arms pivoted to the rotating hoop and provided with gures, a non rotatable cam plate and connections between the said arms and cam-plate whereby the figures are moved relatively to the hoop, as described and set forth.

' 4c. In a toy hoop the combination with the pivoted arms pivoted to the rotating hoop and provided with igures, of a non rotatable cam IOO plate, a link and slide connection between said arms and cam plate as described and set forth.

5. In a toy hoop the combination with the pivoted arms having figures at their outer ends, of links L,pins F to support the pivoted arms, and slide G, pins g, working in cam groove and a non rotatable cam plate, all sub stantially as described and set forth.

6. In a toy hoop with wheel frame work, the combination with pivoted arms having pivotal connection with the pins F at f, and connected with a non rotatable cam plate, whereby Iigures or images attached to the pvoted arms move relatively with the hoop according to the shape or form of cam used, all substantially as described.

7. In a toy hoop with wheel framework, hub and spokes, the combination with the pivoted arms, with images or igures a non-rotatable cam-plate, links L, pins F, driven into or nailed to the hoop hub C. slides G with pins g, a hub, shaft, and suitable handle, all substantially as described.

8. In a toy hoop, with wheel frame-work, in combination with a shaft upon which the hub of the hoop is mounted, a non-rotatable camplate attached to a handle, pivoted arms, having figures at their outer extremities links L, slides G with pins g extending into the cam groove and pins F driven into the hoop hub for support, all substantially as described and set forth.
