(No Model.)
L. J., PEAGHEY. BUTOHERING APPLIANGE.
No. 501,691. Patented July 18,1893. v
THEE! UNITED STAT S P TENT OFFICE.
LEVI J. PEACHEY, OF NEAR HUNTSVILLE, OHIO.
BLUTCHERIVNG APPLIANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,691, dated July 18, 1893.
Application filed December 16, 1892. Serial No. 455,400- (No model.)
To all-whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEVI J PEACHEY, a citizen of the United States, residing near Huntsville, in the county of Logan and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in ButcheringAppliances, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in butchering devices used by farmers and others in butchering hogs and other animals.
Figure l isa perspective View with open end of a barrel raised upon a block and held rigid by pins 0 and harness or shackles F, G, H, I. Fig. 2' is a perspective view of my block and shackles with barrel detached; Fig. 3 perspective view of rack for swinging the hogs on.
. My invention is intended to facilitate the work of butchering and especially that of scalding the hog, where a barrel is used for that purpose, as is generally done by farmers. To this end I locate the open end of the barrel upon a block B, to elevate it, the lower end resting on the ground. Pins 0, extending up from the block, prevent any sidewise movement, or rolling of the barrel. Attached to staples D in the top or side of the block B is a hook E, that engages chain F, attached to clamps G, having their outer ends bent over to fit the chine of the barrel, and bifurcated or notched to facilitate the curving of the bent over parts to fit the chine. A strap R attached to the chain or clamp passes'over the barrel and keeps the clamps at proper elevation, on the barrel.
In operation a portable post L mounted on a base M, and having the braces N, N, and
notched top Q is'placed in a desirable situation, relative to a stationary postK, and pole P, laid in position across them. The hog after being slaughtered is hauled to the open end of the barrel and slid off the sled or wagon into the barrel containing sufficient water to scald the hog. After scalding, the hog is swung onto pole P and dressed.
What I claim is-- The block B, staples D, hooks E, chains F, clamps G having the curved, bent, ends H, and notch I and the support R, as and for the purpose set forth.
LEVI J. PEAOI-IEY.
