UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT WHITE, OE LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO FREDERICK- TAYLOR, OF SAME PLACE.
HAT AND COAT HOOK. I
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,453, dated July 11, 1893.
Original application filed March 26, 1890, Serial No. 345,351- Divided and this application filed March 81, 1893. Serial No. 468,499- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hat and Coat Hooks,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hat and coat hooks to and consists of a hat and coat hook formed from a single piece of wire, doubled upon itself to form a loop, with two members lying in the same surface laterally and constituting the hat-hook, the extremity of one of said members being formed into an eye and said wire at the rear end of the other of said members being projected diagonally to form a brace and said wire being then doubled upon itself, to form a coat hook with two members in the same surface laterally, one of said lastnamed members being extended upward through said eye and bent backward to form an attaching-point, as hereinafter described and claimed, this application being a division of application, Serial No. 345,351, filed March The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of my improved hat and coat hook.
The hat and coat hook herein described is 0 formed from asingle piece of wire A, provided at one end with an eye a and doubled laterally upon itself at a to form a loop which constitutes the hat-hook H, the free end of said loop being preferably deflected upward, the
better to retain a garment loop thereon and the members of said loop or hat hook H lie in the same surface laterally, the principal part of each of said members lying in a horizontal plane, the member a extending from 0 said eye a to said free end of said hat-hook and the wire from the rear end of the other member a of said hat hook being projected diagonally downward, at E to form a brace B, and said wire from the lower end of said brace B curving downward, forward and up- 5 ward and being doubled upon itself at a to form a hat-hook H, the two members of which hat-hook lie in the same surface laterally, as shown, that is to say, a line connecting two points, one in each member of the hook H at equal distances from the free end of said hook H will be a horizontal line. From the rear end of the coat hook H the wire is continued vertically upward at a to form a back which rests against the wall, cleat or other surface to which the hook is attached, and through the eye a, above Which eye the other end of the wire is bent backward, to form an attaching-point a, which is preferably screw-threaded, as shown. The vertical back a is preferoo ably offset, forward, as shown, to let the eye a into said back flush with the rear face thereof.
- I claim as my invention- A hat and coat hook formed from a single piece of wire, doubled upon itself to form a loop, with two members lying in the same surface laterally and constituting the hat-hook, the extremity of one of said members being formed into an eye and said wire at the rear end of the other of said members being projected diagonally downward to form a brace and said wire being then doubled upon itself, to form a coat hook with two members in the same surface laterally, one of said last-named members being extended upward through said eye and bent backward to form an attachingpoint, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification, in the presence of two attesting wit- 8o nesses, this 30th day of March, A. D. 1893.
ALBERT WHITE. Witnesses:
